the cheapest ones for sale in the UKare unlikely to meet your needs.
you need to find out life time costs, how much energy the household requires etc.
most ready made domestic systems are little more than a flag saying look how "green" i am

If you already have low energy appliances used sparingly then look at wind turbines, otherwise it is much more cost effectice to invest in such devices & lifestyle first.
It is also better for the planet, use less resources, if you buy your grid electric from a renewable energy supplier (available to all UK households), because of the efficencies of scale that an be obtained in all energy conversion devies. The national high voltage grid is very efficient.

for info on all the parameters involved and how to make a system yourself then visit the Centre for Alternative Technology Wales www.cat.org.uk

The domestic ones on sale at the moment are unfortunately just not worth it - it's in the physics. The output is in inverse proportion to the cube of the windspeed, so if the wind drops from a pretty stiff 20 mph to say 10 you are getting one ninth of the power. It will never pay back the cost let alone the energy it took to make it in the first place. Wind turbines need at least 3 meter blades to be efficient. Lok at solar heating if you want to save energy, now that can payback, bigtime.

That thing in B&Q by a mile. Makes more sense to wait a couple of years though, don't rush out and buy just yet. They're still far too expensive.
