My daughter will be 2 years old next month. During the summer i had to fight with her just to get her out of the water, but now she attacks me when i try to give her a bath. Her fear seems to worsen when i try to wash her hair.

OK. So maybe you got some soap in her eyes. But let's say that you didn't or that it's tear free. Does she have an ear infection? My daughter would get like that b/c water would get into her ears and it'd irritate them. Or, she may just not like the feeling of the water in her ears, eyes, etc. My daughter HATES to have water on her face unless she splashes it herself.

Babies at this age are starting to develop fears. She may not like the sound of the bathtub being filled or maybe she doesn't like the water. But then again, she could be going through a stage.

My best advise would be to talk to her. I know she's "just 2" but she can understand. talk to her and explain what you're doing with each process. Also, get her involved! tell her to wash her own hair! My daughter LOVES that because I praise her for doing a good job. She also washes her own feet and stomach and she's just 14-months old. I have to go after her, but she LOVES doing it because I tell her she's a big girl.

Mabe you should try taking a bath with your daughter. If you feel uncomfortable, put a bathing suit on and let her in the bathtub with you and let her see how BIG PEOPLE do it! She may like that!

Best of luck!

I don't think I can really help you with this one because I am going through the same thing with my son (19 months old). one day he is trying to get into the tube on his own and the next day he screams at the top of his lungs and oh man washing the hair sometimes can be murder. This is what I have done. I sit by the tube with him on a bad day and play with the toys in the tube until he seems somewhat interested and then place him in the tube, never to remove my arm from around him and reasure him that he is okay. He quiets down after a minute or so. I've splashed, used the face cloth as a boat and splashed with it. Washed his play fishes faces and washed their imaginary hair. Hair time, I don't do in the tube. I hold him, resting him on my leg or lap and sing with him the hole time. (ABCs or Barney seems to work, I don't quite know all the words to Bob the builder, but I'm getting there). I'll be checking back with you on any other good ideas. Good luck and happy holidays.

She might have gotten some water in her eyes or up her nose. Thats what happened with my son around that age and he was scared of the water afterwards. Or it could be the sound of the running water that scares her. Run her bath before you have her in there. Add some water toys, or even bubbles to coax her into the bath. Use a washcloth to wet her hair and to rinse the shampoo out. If all else fails, get in the tub with her. You dont have to get naked, just shorts and a t-shirt work fine and play with her in there. Even if you dont get in the tub, make it a fun time in the bath for her. Eventually she'll begin to enjoy it again.

My son went through that too.. I told him he could take a shower.. he seemed even more frightened so he then decided the bath would be ok with just a little water in it.. For washing his hair i have him hold a wash cloth over his eyes.. and i use a small pail to rinse the shampoo out... after awhile he wanted more water an alot more bubbles again.. But he still uses the wash rag on his eyes.. Whatever works is A-Ok with me.. good luck

My son went through the same thing. Did she accidently get a mouthful, or maybe some soap got in her eyes? Do not worry she will soon realise that it won't happen again if this has in fact been the reason why she is afraid of the tub. This too shall pass.

My daughter had the same issue at the same age. I had her play in the tub without water for a few days, and that did the trick.

When washing her hair, I noticed she responds better to "chin up" instead of "head back," and she gets less water in her face.

Just going thru a stage I am sure. It is a totally normal thing. I wouldnt worry! Maybe you could try taking a bath with her. Or if she has an older sister than maybe the big sister would like to give it a try.

It may be just a phase. Both my kids have been afraid of the bath one time or another and washing hair is the worst !! She may have gotten water up her nose or something and it scared her. you may want to just let her play in the tub with some toys before you wash her or her hair. you may want to get sometime up on the ceiling for her to look at when you rince her hair.

I used to scream at my mom when she tried to wash my hair. It's just the fear of having all that water and shampoo in your eyes and face. maybe tie a towel or something over her eyes so they won't get as irritated.
