It's just a fad (albeit a somewhat long-lasting one). It'll die out and eventually be changed to something else that fits with the mood of the current times. It's only still a "good" insult because some people still take insult to homosexuality. Once that dies out (it will; someday) something else will replace it.

Yeah the word gay really means happy. But noone uses it that way anymore. My guess is the insulting way to say it was started by some homophobic male.

its the latest fad. The kids use it non stop at the moment.
But lets not forget, GAY, back in the old days, meant happy, cheerful.
Somewhere along the way, it became THE WORD for the homosexuals. And for the life I me I don't understand why, because not that many of them are that happy or cheerful.

I don't know... I guess words just "evolve" in slang-language. Gay used to mean happy and now it describes a homosexual person. Queer is the same way-- it used to mean strange but now it describes a homosexual person.
Words evolve. There are many words out there that once meant one things fifty years ago and now, today, mean another. I've always liked regular definitions myself and have been trying to bring back queer as to not reference homosexuals, making myself note: "That tree looks queer... Queer in the old definition, meaning strange." But, as times change, people and their language suit it, I suppose.

It's basic slang used to point out when something is 'lame' or if something is too stereotypically feminine or in certain situations may seem homosexual in nature. When it comes to forums, people usually use it just to insult or rile someone up, annoying as it is.

This question is so gay..............no just kidding. I think its just one of those words. Like people say "Holy cow" or "Holy crap" I mean those things aren't holy. People always come up with weird exclamaitions and slang.
