My grandmas telling me kids die because of beer bongs. Is this true? Is it dangerous?

Your grandma is most likely close-minded on the subject of drinking as elder folks oft are. However, if the beer gets enough velocity, (like those 2 story ones that insane frat guys do) it can cause some serious damage to not only your throat, but beer can enter your lungs, stretch your stomach, etc. Any liquid (especially alcohol) in your lungs is bad, because the membranes will absorb it quicker. So if you're a moron, yes, a beerbong can kill you.

Yes and No.
Drinking is not bad for you and, in theory, drinking a beer bong also is not bad for you, if it is done right. There are many factors to consider if you are going to drink at all much less drink a beer bong.
You should already know that drinking too much alcohol is not good for you and you can in fact die from drinking too much. Also if you do not have a tolerance to alcohol, you can "overdose" with just one beer bong. The idea is to drink as much beer in as little time and forcing the beer down your throat by passing your lungs and into your stomach in about 5 to 10 seconds is not a very smart thing to do.
Also it goes with out saying you can choke if you do not close your "wind-pipe" allowing beer to enter into your lungs.
All in all it is just not smart to drink a beer bong. Also if you drink at all it should not be to get drunk, but to enjoy the taste of your drink and/or the atmosphere that accompanies drinking. If you do drink simply to get drunk, then you are an alcoholic and need to check into AA.

No, but it does lead to a significantly lower I.Q.

Too much alcohol can kill you, and it does kill people all the time.
Aside from that, beer bongs are a horribly trashy way of consuming large amounts of cheap beer you wouldnt otherwise drink.

Why would you put beer in your bong? I think Grandma just does not want you taking her beer or getting her bong dirty. No, it is an old wives tale.

If you drink too much alcohol you can die. You prob won't die from the actual beer unless you would hook it up to a pressure pump and attach it permanently to your mouth.
