My dad had a cat who used to pee on the wall because he thought of it as his territory. Also I know that sometimes cats get wild because, I mean your cat's ancestors used to be wild and were allowed to go do their thing anywhere they wanted. Your cat could need a cat phycatrist or something or just something to let him free his wild spirit. Like making him chase his food a bit.

It might be where you have the litterbox. He might not going in it for a quick squirt, but for things that take some concentration, he might want a little more privacy. Maybe, like the poster before me said, get another litterbox, because he was right. Some cats want one for each thing. But put this second litterbox in a more private place and put some of the stuff he is leaving on the floor in it. Show it to him. He will get the message.

Try getting two litter boxes. Maybe he wants one for number 1 and another for number 2.

try playing with him or giving him more attention. my 7 year male cat will walk right in front of you and pee if he feels that he is not getting enough attention or is bored.
