Who's the idiot telling you America has no official language?
We do. It's called English.
And the only reason Espanol is creeping up on every single thing we read and hear is because of illegal immigration, businesses trying to make more money by enabling illegals to read (and therefore purchase) their products, and the high rate of birth among Mexicans.

Get some History.
Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and parts of Colorado and several other states, were initially explored and settled by Spain.
Under the treaties when those states became part of the US, the initial Spanish settlers and the Indians became US residents. There were lots of settlers and they spoke Spanish.
Those folks, their language, customs and descendants have just as much right to maintain their history as does anyone else.
They have paid taxes, fought world wars, gotten world recognized awards in the name of the US, done everything anybody else has done.
Many state constitutions in the southwest were originally written in English and Spanish because well over half of the states' population spoke only Spanish, and with no immigration.
The US came to them not them to the US.
So in the southwest US , we have no issues, if we understand history.
We don't like illegal immigration, but the speaking of Spanish is not an issue.

Unfortunately, we do not have an "official" language, although there is pending legislation to confirm that English is it.
I agree that mass ignorance of our laws based on some stupid argument about what someone did (or didn't do) 300 years ago does NOT grant ANYONE the right to break the law.
Maybe if we all went on a mass murder spree and shot everyone who wore green today and blamed it on our hurt feelings, we would be exonerated. What do you think?
Perhaps all U.S. citizens of French descent should demand that French be the official language - at least of the middle third of the Country - that Napolean was pretty dumb, wasn't he?
And Alaskans should all be required to speak Russian because they were stupid enough to sell it to us over 150 years ago.
Wait 'til some illegal gets their mitts on YOUR social security number and you have to fight with the IRS for the income tax on their earnings.
I'm sick and tired of having to push #2 to get ENGLISH on the bloody telephone - if I can't have a real person - at least assume that I prefer English - as do at least 95% of the population. And the rest of you should learn it. Why should we have to change everything? If you're going to break the law to come here - at least assimilate and quit demanding that we change 400 years worth of OUR history. If you don't like it - go home - and don't tell me about your husband's 6 figure income. I sure hope he's paying his income taxes. Does he list YOU as a deduction?

Truth be told Spanish was the first European language spoken in the new world! Inmigration has nothing to do with it.you are confusing debates. It is only by one fourth , war booty ,that English is spoken in el Norte, Canada and the United States , the rest of the Americas are Spanish speaking , and Natives languages , Bazil of course speaks Portugese. Canada also speaks French and other Natives languages. In this 21st century all languages have translators. Ther will be a global language in the making.

Just we have one country export culture as well as America does??? Its called Mexico its not bad thing because it forces people to open their eyes to other cultures. Mexico and America are a lot of like they both have pride in their country, both become very upset when they see their flags fondled with. Both like to export cultural ideas. Mexico complements America like Canada does. Mexican government knows the American way of thinking better than the people in Europe it occurs when you deal with them day to day for the last 150 years. In the 19th century Britain, USA were the biggest investors in Mexico, and vice verse during that time. Lots a quirky things occur between Mexico and the Untied States that do not occur with any other country with a border unique as ours in the world. Should be thankful Mexico is to the south, and not Arabia or Iran.

Because that is the market place and when you have a business you have to treat the market the way it is and not the way it should be. If you have a high percentage of Spanish customers you must cater to them. Old business rule. If you do not take care of your customers somebody else will.

first of all,English is not the official language of the US while most people speak English. Then, new immigrants may not be able to speak english.they have to speak their original language including spanish. And everyone has his right to use any language as long as it's not offensive.
Last but not least,I have to remind you of several facts. Most of time, immigrants want to learn English but they have difficulties in learning it. And illegal immigrants should be controlled while legal immigrants should be helped. Personally,I think the government should take one's english proficiency when considering giving him citizenship. And government should help new immigrants learn english
