King Alfonso was very angry because el Cid had humilliated him so he sent a secret letter to the people in Burgos in which he prohibited everybody from helping el Cid in any way or manner. It was also stated that if somebody would disobey will be punished by losing all their land and properties and even their eyes. The people went in hiding because even though they loved El Cid, they were scared of Alfonso.
El Cid didn´t know this until he met the little girl who informed him about Alfonso's order.
