It's never black and white, but black, white, and grey. This is a common way for the underlying nature of things to work: (Male, Female, A-sexual/androgynous)
Just as there is good, evil, and pure neutral.
I think an easily observed example of evil is willfully causing imbalance in the world around you.
For instance, you walk down an alley way and witness a man mugging a defenseless individual.
It's would obviously be an evil deed to join the attacker and claim part of the prize.
And it would be deemed sainlty to come to the rescue and save the indiidual, as the odds are already not in his favor.
And what is (some will debate) the ultimately neutral action, to simply walk by and let things play out as they will.
Yet circumstance can cause things to become ambiguous.
What if it were instead a small malnourished child attempting to pickpocket a wallet from an obviously wealthy person who wouldnt miss the money?
In situations such as this, I believe the only sin is betraying your own standards.
Just as the thief may have many reasons for stealing, some good, some bad; a person may also have many reasons for believing one way or another.
It's almost like playing with scales, one may commit an atrocious deed, as long as the reprecussions of the action are positive enough to rationalize the deed.
Killing for the sake of bloodlust is evil, but killling to save thousands of lives is noble and righteous.
It's a difficult question, and I would say that their is a definite good, evil, and/or neutral in ANY situtation. It's just never exactly the same for each person due to different responsibilities created by each indivduals outlook.
I myself would ask the question, "Can a person sin with good intent?"

The laws of God are not written in black in white. An example from the bible : A law of the ten commandments is : Do not work on the Sabbath, yet during Jesus ministry, when he was accused by the Pharisees for healing on the Sabbath,He said that if you should see your animal fall in a hole on the Sabbath then you should rescue it (work). So I think about a starving child and such... God would want you to use the brain he created in you to help your child... and family.

Sin is anything that hurts you. There is nothing wrong stealing food for your child. Killing a bugler that enters your home threatening your family. I would take an apple and kill the bugler. I don't think that God has written his laws in black and white. But Sin is definitely anything that hurts you.

Sin is wilfully rebelling against that which you KNOW is against his Commandments.
No, you dont steal the apple for your starving child.. why? because the Lord will bless you for NOT stealing. And you will KNOW that if you have FAITH in Him who konws all things.
If someone is threatening the welfare of your family in such a way as they are going to murder or harm you, you DO have the right to protect them in anyway you see fit at the time. We are told to protect our families. That is why we are told we have the right to arm ourselves. Its to protect our families. That is in the constitution that is inspired by God.
The laws ARE written in black & white. UNLESS the Lord tells you otherwise.

The first two examples God would not consider sin. Sin is an act of selfishness.

We do not make the rules, God does. So the true question for a christian is what is sin to God, and that never ever changes.

Its all circumstantial according to your heart. Yes I would steal food for my baby and yes I would blow a mthrfckrs head off if he broke into my house. NO GUILT ATTACHED. If you hurt someone out of greed or jealousy or anger or some sort of personal gain then I would see that as sin. All these loser answers "sin is sin - blah blah blah" If some perv breaks into your house you gonna' hand over your wife or daughter for him to rape in front of you?

Sin is doing something you KNOW is wrong. Protecting your family or yourself from something evil is not a sin in my eyes. As far as feeding my children.... I'd do anything to put food in their mouths ....clothes on their bodies....shoes on their feet.
