I have wanted a cell phone for a long time.I've wanted one ever since 8th grade and I am currently in my sophomore year at high school. My parents still don't want to get me a phone, afraid it will affect my grades(my grades are always above 3.1.I have made it a priority to keep them above that). So this year it was the only thing I've asked for. My mom said I could have one,but my dad is a stubborn man.I swear I won't get one till I'm practically married! He doesn't agree to it because I shouldn't be focusing on a phone and I should focus on school. My mom went and ordered a phone on his account, but with her credit card.Verizon won't give in because she doesn't hold an account with them. Now I can't get the phone and my mom is mad at me because I can't over it.It sounds very ignorant of me?So......how do I persuade my dad?Its the only way I'll be able to get a phone...

You have desires - your parent(s) want whats best for you. They love you and want to protect you!

In all honesty, cell phone ain't all they're cracked up to be (IMHO). In my neck of the country, all too many young folk using cell phones are involved in drugs, one way or another. I'm not saying you are!

Let your mom speak with your dad and in time he will come around. Keep those grades up (Great work, BTW) and prove him wrong! When you prove that you are grown up enough to use a cell phone wisely, it will arrive.

You can get a prepaid phone, but you need a credit card for it.

If you like you can try sitting down with your dad and telling him that you two can make a deal. If you can keep your GPA above 3.1 or whatever goal it is for 2 quarters or a year or whatever, you can get a prepaid phone or a phone with the least minutes or whatever.

However, your mom should have checked Verizon's policies before ordering. (Unless you're the one who told her to and told her it'd be fine to do it with her CC and on his account...)

Cell phones are increasingly handy, despite the obnoxious people who feel the need to bellow their conversations within a 10 feet radius or won't get off their phone to actually interact with someone. They can help in an emergency and will be useful when you go to college.

You can get a calling card cellphone, that way your Mom can do that! and pay as you go!, Of course make one more plea to your Dad, and tell him that is what you would like for Christmas, and that you will reassure him, that you will keep getting good grades, and do the right things. Tell him to trust you! say I have not let you down yet! Have a great holiday!

Get a job and get your own pre-paid phone. I didn't want to get my son a phone because I knew if I called him he wouldn't answer. If you paid for your own phone then you won't think it is a toy. You won't talk on the phone unnecessarily for hours because it is expensive. And you will understand the meaning of a dollar earned.
