Scared of him getting weirded out and leaving? This is a legitimate concern. I don't think you want to announce it explicitly all at once. Let him know you like him, and APPEAR really anxious for him without saying anything. If he sticks around you're probably safe.

You're scared of rejection, and that he may not feel the same way about you, then you will feel stupid for saying anything and probably never be able to be friends with him again.
