Knowledge is a powerful thing today. We all seek it, we all learn and crave knowledge regarding ourselves, our interests, others, etc. Knowledge comes from have learned things in the past, whether it is years ago or mere seconds ago.
Wisdom is knowing how to apply that knowledge to future situations. Wisdom is not only 'knowing' but also 'learning from' and 'applying' knowledge.
So, knowledge is basically the aquisition of knowledge, the knowing. And wisdom is the learning and applying of knowledge to enable you to make better, more informed decisions regarding events, issues, yourself, others and your life etc.
That's my take it on anyway.

Let me put it in a modern concept, living in Asia taught me this. In Asia lot of kids just study study study!!!! So knowledge in the modern context or vernacular means book smarts whereas wisdom would be the equivalent of streets smarts in today's language.
Because when you have book smarts you studied about something that already happened.
Whereas wisdom is the application of what you learned so you know what not to do.

because with knowledge we can correct the future...thus we gain wisdom.
because with wisdom we can correct the past...today..thus we gain knowledge.
We can't just want something without being experienced, it opens us up for mistakes. And thats how we learn...from our mistakes..or the "hard" way. These days people don't want to learn the hard way but rather do things using your head more and not screwing up.

It means that:
People want to what is going on and what is happening now, but not why. Wisdom is experience and understanding, but knowledge could just be memorization.

It means learning from the mistakes of the past, not just knowing about them, but avoiding mistakes in the future because you are getting smarter (or wiser).
