The 289 is a V-8 dude. I think Ford did have an inline 6 for the mustang that year but I have no clue which one it was.

A 289 is a bad *** V8.
If you do have a 6 cylinder, It's a straight 6 aka inline 6 cyl.

ya rebiult a couple over the yrs wonderful engine, by the way itis aV-8 not v6 for peices ,parts ,and componets se you local speed or perfomance supply house see yellow pages in you area tell them you have a 289 v8 have yr , ID # ready have fun

first, 289 is a v8 not v6; second, in 66 they didn't make a v6.
