Don't answer yet, here are a few things to think about. The Universe is bigger than anyone can even imagine. With in it are trillions and trillions of stars that are very similar to our own sun. Of all of this cosmic real estate we are only known to be on this one, Earth. Of all of this real estate in the universe we would die instantly in about 99.9999999999999...% of it. Even our own planet is mostly inhospitable. Unaided by modern technology we can only survive on about one third of it. Even in this small fraction of our own planet we face numerous life threatening dangers (predators, poisonous plants, exposure to elements, even ourselves).

If the Universe was created JUST for US, that's a tremendous waste wouldn't you say... not to mention not a very well thought out home since it is filled with danger.

let me clarify, i don't claim that we are the only life in the entire universe... but just that we don't know for sure that there is. All we can say for certain is we exist.

Especially since everyone thinks it's all going to end in a few years. So the billions of light-years will REALLY go to waste.

Actually, there is really no evidence to indicate the universe was "designed" at all. If it was designed, it is a vastly wasteful mechanism. The energy that is released by stars which have no planetary systems alone indicates that intelligent design wasn't a factor in their placement.

Any intelligence with the power to fashion a universe to begin with could certainly fashion it to be stable and hospitable for it's most cherished of creations - humans. Instead we live on a planet that is constantly shifting & changing, subject to volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and annihilation from rogue objects flying through space like asteroids & comets.

Theists will tell you that natural disasters are god's way of testing the faithful, and these conditions didn't exist prior to original sin, which of course is nonsense since the earth has been subject to the same violent events since it was formed billions of years ago.

By theist's reasoning, natural disasters are meant to test the faith of survivors, so one must ask what would happen if a random extinction level event, such as a 10 mile wide meteor impact occurred. This would wipe out the human species. Whose faith is being tested?

We know these impacts have occurred in the past, so they are in the realm of possibility. I suppose that theists would simply say that god simply had a reason for wanting to wipe out the human race in a most horrible, painful and terrifyingly slow fashion.

The universe is random chance. Anyone who can't (or refuses) to see this is deluded.

The universe is just something nice to look at. When you actually go out there and study it, like with the moon or Mars it loses its value because it turns out to just be a bunch of rocks.

Planetary Nebulae are perhaps some of the most beautiful things in the universe yet they are really just a bunch of gases and dust reflecting stellar light that appear magnificent but up close are not.

Your erroneous assumptions include:

- God intended us to live in a world with no danger.
- God intended us to spread out to fill all the universe from the instant is was made, instead of expanding as our understanding increased.
- That you even know the extent of the universe - current estimates place the boundaries of the universe ten times further than we can see, meaning 99% of the universe is completely invisible to us.
- That you have a good enough grasp of universe construction to know what is efficient and what is a waste.

No, it wasn't created for us. However, we were made to fit the universe. We were made by all of our ancestors and by the environment that shaped us. If this universe was any different, we wouldn't be here to question how perfectly it seems to fit us. So this is the one of the only universes that would have resulted in me answering this question. Of course, there might be some other life form doing the same if the universe was different. Where we wonder at the fact that the Earth just warm enough for us to have water and not vary too much out of our comfort range, in a different universe another lifeform may wonder their world being being about 1000 degrees which is just right for that lifeform.

So, while the universe isn't designed for us, it is easy to see why it seems to be.

I know that the universe was created just for the purpose for us humans to be born into it, live our short lives and then die. I also do know that we are not the only planet in the universe with humans on it. There are more planets that have humans then we can even comprehend. And when one of those planets fulfills it purpose and become celestialized God creates another one in it's place. These are not things I believe and have faith that they are true, but these things I know as facts and understand it like I understand how to breath air.

no it wasn't designed just for us and its very egotistical and stupid to think there isn't anyone else out there besides ourselves. i believe in god and when it said he created the heavens and the earth i have no doubt that he did but i also cannot find anywhere in the scriptures or other writings that he said he only created this man on this earth. personally i think that is limiting god's ability to think that we are the only 'humans.'

(that being said i do know some people who think the universe revolves around them though....but no amount of wisdom or information on the universe being infinite would change the view of THEIR little worlds. ) ; )

I think we were designed to be in this planet and share it with other living creatures. We could not survive outside our atmosphere, so although the entire universe was not designed for us but we can contemplate it's beauty in a clear starlight sky.

I saw a flying saucer once.daytime.just a few hundred feet up. no. God designed it all for everything.each life form being right for that particular life form.for that particular planet. there is no end to the wonders God made. we think way to highly of ourselves, that's for sure.
