she was in constant season and would try her hardest to get outside well one day about 4/5 weeks ago she managed it (may i add that we live in a second floor flat !!! extreme lengths for a bit of rumpy pumpy dontcha think) and since then she hasnt had a single amorous "episode" she spends a lot more time sleeping and is eating a lot more than she normally does although the last may be due to the sudden growth spurt she seems to have gone through shes 26 weeks old and not yet spayed her belly seems a little swollen too but only so you dont know unless you look for it pls only answer if u know what your talking about!!!

ty for your answers so far but i dont want her spayed yet she has as much right to have kittens as a woman does to have children i will get her spayed eventually but just not yet she's an indoor cat cos i got her from a shelter as she was malnutritioned and abused i didnt plan for her to get pregnant im not ignorant to the dangers of her being pregnant so young her getting outside was a one off as those of you that work professionally with them will know cats will do their upmost to get out when they are in season and now i know shes capable ive taken precautions to prevent escape in the future.

The only way to know for sure is to take her to the vet, and get her spayed while you are there, cats can be fixed as early as 8 weeks.

She probably is pregnant.
As for having the right to have kittens as a woman does to have children - she is a baby herself, and if you would like to humanise your cat, think about an 11 or 12 year old girl having babies.
If you really care about your cat's welfare take her to the vet and have her spayed, She will be a lot happier and healthier for it. It is quite safe to do up until she is due to give birth.
Cats do not have the same emotions as people, they are driven by hormones when it comes to procreating.
For those of us who work professionally with cats know that early desexing is the only way to make sure our cats are safe. As long as the kitten is over about 850gm it is safe to do.
You said you got her from a shelter, why wasnt she fit, healthy and de-sexed before you got her?

She needs to be spayed now. Having kittens that young can be detrimental to her health. Plus, the chances of her being a good mom at that young age are pretty slim. Are you prepared to bottle feed and take care of 5 kittens every 2 hours? Also, you need to have some money set aside just in case she would need a c-section, which is very possible at 6 months of age.
The only way to confirm the pregnancy is to have a veterinarian either do an ultrasound on her, or take radiographs. From there they can advise you on her care and signs of dystocia.
The absolute best thing you can do is have her spayed.

If she is just 26 weeks old, this was her first heat. She is still a kitten herself until she is more than a year old. You could be facing heavy complications for both her and the kittens. I would really schedule a vet visit to have things checked out. If she is pregnant, and far enough along, he can do a test to tell you how many kittens she is carrying. Then you could tell how many homes you had to look for, unless you plan to keep them.
I hope everything is OK for all of you.

Her stomach will get really fat in the middle and her nipples will get bigger and sag. Also when she is further along you can see the kittens moving around. Not a sure way early on other than to wait or take her to the vet.

If you want to know now, as opposed to when she's very far along, take her to the vet and they will be able to examine her and tell you. If it's still early stage pregnancy, they can still go ahead & desex her. Kittens often get pregnant for the first time at about 5 months, so its definitely possible.

if you want to you can get her speyed even if she is pregnant- it may cost more. If you want to keep them then ask the vet about any diagnostic procedures they have e.g. ultrasound. check for nipple enlargement and nesting behaviour. pregnacny lasts around 60 days. if you are keeping the pregnancy then start feeding kitten food to her. cats can usually get pregnant after 6 months, less for some breeds so i'd assume she is.
