I have a one year old yorkshire terrier. Tonight he has started to scratch his ear and shake his head quite a bit. I checked inside it the best I can and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. What could possibly be bothering his ear?? He scratches to the point he is crying now. Is there something I can do for him to get him through the night till the vet opens in the morning??

Moisten a q-tip and gently swab inside his ear. Be careful not to go too deep. It may be the beginnings of an ear infection, ear mites or it could be that a flea crawled in his ear.

fleas, ear mites, or yeast infection ; usuallly needs to be treated as soon as possible before it gets nasty; this is number one indicator of an ear problem sometimes down in the canal ; it will get worse without treatment

Your question was..."what to do in the meantime"...Obviously it's an infection or infestation...Use a cue tip and liberally apply mineral oil all throughout the canel....Repeat every 6 to 8 hrs...

Get him to the vet asap...Yuke
