Habit 1 - trash can with lid
Habit 2 - cats like cold fresh water. Try a pottery bowl for water instead of plastic. Maybe throw an ice cube in it to keep it cold. Some folks don't like cats on counters, but clorox and lysol make convenient little wipes that disinfect surfaces before food preparation. Your hands have picked up more germs in the course of a work day, than your cat can possibly have on its feet. I have several cats who I invite to jump up to get a drink from the faucet. It is cute to see. It would save you a lot of stress if you could come to peace with this one.
Habit 3 - if she is meowing when you are eating, she is hungry. Leave a bowl of dry food down all the time, so that she is getting plenty to eat, and before you eat, give her part of a can of canned cat food. She will be busy eating while you are eating.
Just eating dry food all the time is really bad for your cat's kidneys and bladder. Just ask the vet about it on your next visit.
There, problem solved, at least I think so. LOL

Honestly, I can't say I consider these to be "really bad habits" but,
1. Buy a kitchen trash can with a top that she cannot open easily. Don't put food in the other waste cans.
2. A lot of cats prefer fresh water. You could either leave a tap open just a little bit somewhere else (say the bathtub) or buy one of those kitty bubblers that aerate the water. Don't leave the leftovers out.
3. Have you been giving her goodies from the table? If so, she may figure that meowing will get her more of the same. Don't feed her from your table at all.
Enjoy your cat. Like people, many of them are less than perfect. I sure she has other qualities that make her quite wonderful.

Bad Habit number 1)
This might sound gross by next time she goes into the trashcan, get her w/e it is she did out and place it in her litter box. Let it smell it. Repeat it a few times.
Bad Habit number 2)
Provide fresh water for her everyday next to her food. Don't forget to feed her too!
Bad Habit number 3)
She just wants to be with the rest of the family and feels excluded. Give her something off the table (if you don't mind) but if you do mind the cat eating next to the table, put it in her plate. Or simply pay more attention to her, she must feel lonely to be meowing.
I hope that helps.

1) Keep the trash can covered, or move it to a closet and close the door.
2) My cat is now allowed on the counters or tables. Use a small squirt bottled and say "no" loudly and spray her if she gets on the countertops.
3) Not sure why she does this unless she's hungry. Feed her before you eat.

Get a squirt gun and spray her a couple of times when she is on the counter or is getting into the trash. It doesn't hurt them, but they don't like it. Then, just put the squirt gun in the area she goes and she will start to avoid it. Like a kid, she'll try to push the boundaries every now and again, but it should stop her from doing it all of the time. I had a cat that would climb in our trash can to get leftovers too! The squirt gun really helped!

I have a small spritzer bottle (you can buy them empty in the travel-size section of a drugstore) which is filled with water. When kitty is bad, I spray. After awhile, just making the noise of a spray and the gesture of having the bottle in my hand will stop the kitty.

The best way to break a cat's bad habit in my opinion is scold her. Cats can sense by your tone that you aren't happy with them. Also lightly tap her on the nose when she does one of those things. She will get the message. I have five cats and they can be really stubborn unfortuantely. I have one that insists on setting in front of my computer screen when I am using it and jacks her butt up to block my screen. Its annoying but she is so cute I can't stay mad. She also knows that I don't like her on the kitchen table. She sometimes gets up there and looks at me knowing that she is doing something wrong.
Hope this helps.

tape the trashcan shut, leave no leftovers... or try to have no possible way to get up on the counter. lock her in the other room when you're eating.
