DUCK! ;o)

It depends on the situation. In WWII men lined up to volunteer for "over there" and that left factories needed to run for defense short of workers. That was the time in U.S. history that saw a great increase in women and going to work.

Some are called upon by law to fight in the military. Others serve at home. USO volunteeers for example.... Red Cross volunteers, etc.

Some metals used in making equipment were scarce in WWII, so a lot of people searched through garbage dumps, etc. to find scrap metal and sold it for recycling. My dad talked about doing that as a boy.

Some commodities might be rationed during war, depending on the economics and what is happening. Citizens must adjust, to deal with not having what they were previously used to. They make sacrifices to ensure that the miltary has what it needs to fight a war.

I believe it falls upon all citizens who have a religious belief to pray for our troops and our nation in time of war.

If you write to me I will give you my name to use, since it is an essay, or if you don't need real citations.... just say that Sue said it.

The duty of citizens in time of war is to support the war effort in whatever way they can. They may serve in the military. They may assist the families of service members. They should do whatever they can.

Now, what is the duty of government in time of war? First, the war must be declared by Congress. The last time this was done was in 1941, right after Pearl Harbor. Next, the war must be conducted in such a way as to achieve a victory. When a president goes on national television, like Lyndon Johnson, and says that we are not trying to win a military victory, someone should have begun impeachment proceedings. Third, government needs to refrain from doing anything that contributes to the efforts of our enemies. Promoting trade with Communist nations while Americans are dying in Viet Nam strikes me as treason. Finally, we should never attack another nation that has not attacked us first. And finally, we need to withdraw from entangling alliances that pull us into foreign wars that we have no business in.

The citizens number one duty at all times, war or peace, is to question authority. Period. That's all.

The able should become soldiers. Others support the soldiers, other members of the forces, and support the war effort. Ensure you will have no regrets after the toil.

Support our troops and bring them back home to safety. Make sure they are fighting for a just cause.

At all times take care of self.
After all, you can't count on politicians or corporations to take care of you or your family when something happens to you.
