I think i have infected gums, one area of gum around my eye tooth has been sore for a few days, so today i put some peroxide on it, it immediatly turned white and burned. After brushing i used mouth wash and flossed, and used the peroxide again this evening and the same thing happened, along with some blood. My question is, what can i do to help with until i can get into a dentist?

Thanks for the help, it ended up just being irritated from the toothpaste i was using and a build up of tartar, i saw the dentist and got a good cleaning, said everything should be fine in about a week.

Stop using the peroxide, my dentist told me that it takes the oxygen out of the gumline, dont use flavored/whitening toothpaste for a couple of days until the pain/redness stops...instead throw away your toothbrush and begin using a new one, first dampen it with water & then sprinkle pure baking soda to brush your teeth & gums. If you do floss, try not go so deep in the gumline. You can brush with baking soda as often as you like. If it is an infection, gargle with warm salt water twice a day. Good Luck!

You might not even need to go to a dentist. If it had been a while since you flossed good, that might be the problem. I have had that happen before and when I flossed good for a few days, it cleared up.

Gum disease takes quite some time to do much damage. You could wait and see if it clears up.

oil of clove can be directly applied to the affected area... it's the same stuff used by dentists in the medicated fillings. be sure to follow up with your dentist, though, asap!!

good luck!
