No around stitches it is supposed to be pink not red, if it is red there could be a infection starting or already happening underneath, is there any swelling and discharge that looks funky or smells nasty, all these are signs of infection, if she has had these signs or getting them then she has got to go to the doctor soon, you don't want any complications at the surgery site.

Don't wash with soap or put anything on it wipe with water and clean cloth, go see a doctor if it gets worse or for peace of mind.

good luck.xx

Without being able to actually see the suture line it's really hard to say if its normal or an infection starting. If the area is warm and really tender, then infection is a good possibility- but the only person who can really tell for certain would be a nurse or doctor who could have a look in person. She needs to have it looked at, since there is no way to tell you without actually seeing it in person. Sorry, but the difference between a healing pink/red skin and a red infected skin are in the looking at the overall wound and not from just a description, and it takes experience to tell the difference.

No, if there is red around the stitches then it usually means that there is an infections starting and she should see her doctor before it gets worse.
