The egg will drop 10ft+ and can only have 150 grams of cushioning. What should I use to cushion? If the egg cracks AT ALL it will lower my grade. HELP

First, wrap the egg in cotton. Then, cut a styrofoam egg carton in half crosswise (so it holds 6 eggs instead of 12), but do not take off the hinge. Wedge the wrapped egg in the carton half so that the hinge is at the botttom. Do not try to close the carton half; it should stay open in a v-shape. Now, wegde the assembly into place using sponges. During impact, the hinge will compress and distribute the force along the sides of the wrapped egg.

Use large bubble bubble-wrap. It is very light and will provide the necessary cushion..

Another option would be to build a tether (a rope) that will allow the egg to drop to within inches of the ground ... then release the tether ... the final drop distance should require a minimum of cushioning ... and the tether, if you use fishing line, would weigh nearly nothing...you are simply completing the free-fall in two stages.

Nest the egg in some cotton.. then place that into as many styrofoam cups as you can use given the weight restrictions. If you can drop it so it lands on the nose, your egg will survive as the cups will compress and gently decerate the speed. You may have to flare the last cup to make a tail to keep the nose 'down'.

Not enviornmentally friendly, but it will work

good luck

Of course you may want to experiment prior to the final test, but try:

Cotton balls in a cardboard box,
pop corn in a cardboard box, and
bubble wrap with big bubbles.

Good luck.
