If you are into hunting and fishing, it's great. That's about all there is to do around here. There are some museums and they have scheduled events for the family on post. There are theaters, bowling, and a mall in Manhattan. Junction City is a little trashy but Manhattan is better; More of a college town. It does get pretty cold but the summers are beautiful. We live close to Milford Lake and from my experience, the people are a lot nicer. The housing on post is better then most I've seen but I don't live on post. Never have. Ft. Riley is really big and it's easy to get lost. The PX is nice and I've only been to the commissary two or three times but it's ok. It took me a while to adjust because I'm from the south and things are a lot different here. Good Luck and thank you for your service!!!

BEAT the moving truck to your loacation!!! I know that you have like 30 days of leave to take but if you find a place to live at your new station before the truck gets there (its not as hard as it sounds I've done it three times) you get your stuff right away.... if you get there after, your stuff goes into storage, and it can take up to another thirty days for you to get it!!!
If it's not too late, do a partial ditty move... IE the Army will pay you for driving your car, the gas, and more depending on how much wieght you take with you. Little known fact that can get you like another three to six grand to fund your move.
Good luck!!

Pack what you want to take with you and put it in a car or truck when the movers come in! They are like locusts....they pack -everything-! Including full trash cans......no joke!

Hand carry medical and school records, medicines that you may need, vet records for animals.
