come on now ,i know you want the answer to be Islam ,but how long ago is it that women in the west were still second class citizens I know for a fact it can`t be much more than 30 years ago in the UK when they made equal pay the law (women still get paid less) Battering wives to within an inch of their life was only a domestic .she had to be dead before it was a crime (or not far off )There was no such thing as a man raping his wife ,even if he didn`t actually live with her .it was his conjugal rights .And i could think of a dozen families near me where the husband goes entertaining himself in the pub with all the money while the wife and kids are always home and with no food half the time if the neighbours didn`t give them some .we need to sort out our own backyards before criticising others

Orthodox Judaism does treat women as second class citizens, but it allows access to entertainment. Conservative and Reform Judaism treats men and women as equals because they don't attribute the exile form the Garden of Eden to be solely Eve's fault, one of the reasons that some monotheists treat women as second class citizens.

As for the people who had the nerve to say Islam. Obviously they have no clue what the rights of a muslim woman is. People need to learn how to seperate true Islam from people's cultures. The times you see women being treated badly, it's always by someone who is practicing their culture or people who don't even know a thing about Islam.

I don't know what is the right answer to your question, but I can assure you that it is not Islam. Do your research, you'll find out that ISLAM (the religion, not what people do) gives women all their rights.

Fundamental Christianity frees woman and are to be treated with respect and as an equal. A husband is to lay down his life for his wife and serve her and cherish her as Christ does the church. NOW with that said the church on the other hand has done a horrible job through history to uphold these truths and has often turned a deaf ear in acting in culture to change the CULTURE to convey the truth. Men and woman have differ ant roles to play but are equal.
Most cults in the name of fertility celebration use woman for sex. Saying its for worship but in truth its to get the guys what they want, a cheap thrill.

Islam, Hindu, Budd ism all enslave woman.

Jud ism foundationally as Christianity upholds the woman's roles and the importance of being an equal. The problem is not the teachings of these two religions are flawed, just the men in power.

Religions teach equality, love to all and sharing your wealth. So they claim.

The reality is that they oppress women, demand "voulantary donations", while holding enough money to reduce suffering in developing countries by alot and then encourage people to shun everyone who questions their beliefs.
