Any heat styling has the potential to damage your hair, especially if you use the flat iron daily. There are ways to prevent the damage:
Always use a conditioner every time you wash your hair, even if it's just on the ends.
Use a hot oil or a deep conditioning treatment weekly. This will also help prevent frizz and may help with the striaghtening.
Use a heat protectant when you flat iron your hair. Chi makes a great product and Aquage does too. Their websites are listed below!

Depending on the type of iron you use and how often you use it. Using any type of heat to style your hair will damage it, but not forever. Just trim often and use products to help control damaging hair. I use a heated flat iron two to three times a week to straighten my hair and while I do have some split ends my hair does not feel over dry to the touch. You just need to find a good flat iron. Any "real" cereamic irons are the best.

Yes, it will damage the hair so she should always use a heat protectant before straightening and do deep conditioning treatments from time to time. The only way her hair will be damaged for the rest of her life is if she continues straightening it for the rest of her life. Any new growth will be healthy if she quits frying her hair.

If she uses it everyday of course it will eventually damage her hair. I work in a beauty salon, and we use the ceramic iron, it makes miracles! However, when I look at the split ends it causes when use constantly I dont know what to think about it... I think is ok to use it, but not all the time...

it wont for the rest of her life unless she literally burns off her hair. hair will eventually restore itself as long as she remains healthy. however, to prevent damage from happening, a heat protectant spray should be used and she should deep condition her hair about three times a week.

it will damage her hair especially if she does it very often. it wont damage it for the rest of her life since the new hair that grows in will not be damaged. she could try using sunsilk in her hair to lessen the look of damage
