VET ASAP! Cats will normally hide when they are dying or very sick. Losing weight is a big indicator of a tape worm as is the rapid breathing. If you notice hair loss, that's another big sign. He really needs to see a vet like tonight or tomorrow morning first thing. Good luck!

OH MY GOD, HOW COULD YOU HAVE WAITED THIS LONG???
I CANT BELIEVE YOUR AN ANIMAL LOVER CAUSE IF SO YOU WOULDN'T HAVE WAITED THIS LONG...
YOU NEED TO GET HIM HELP RIGHT NOW, I JUST PUT MY DARLING CAT DOWN ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO CAUSE OF CANCER AND SHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS YOUR CAT.
WHEN A CAT HAS RAPID BREATHING IT BEENS THERE IS FLUID IN THE LUNGS AND CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR HIM TO BREATH.
DONT LET YOUR CAT SUFFER AND TAKE HIM IN ASAP AS HE NEEDS HELP, YOU HAVE TO BE STRONG RIGHT NOW CAUSE I AM SURE HE WILL HAVE TO BE PUT TO SLEEP.
THE TYPE OF CANCER I THINK HE HAS IS CALLED Lymphoma WHICH IS VERY DEADLY AND MEAN TO LET A CAT SUFFER WHICH HE IS.
DONT WAIT GO RIGHT NOW TO A VET AND THEY WONT MAKE YOU PAY RIGHT AWAY IF YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY BUT PLEASE DONT LET HIM SUFFER PLEASE.
YOU DONT WANT TO SEE HIM DIE CAUSE WHEN A CAT CANT BREATH IT'S A REALLY MEAN DEATH AND IT CAN LAST UP TO 3 MINS.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO EMAIL ME AT RYLANDW91@YAHOO.COM
SINCERELY,
DIANA
p.s GO TONIGHT, DON'T WAIT!

He's been like that a week and you haven't taken him to the vet? Gee, I hope with all my heart when you are in severe pain you are somewhere where you can't get to help and you suffer more than your cat.
Please don't ever have children if that's how responsible you are towards living creatures in your care.

defenately take it to the vet. if it is in pain when being picked up there could be something wrong with him. I would definately take him. I hesitated bringing a cat to the vet once, and will NEVER do it again.

Oh my God...Take him to the vet immediately! His behavior is telling you there is something very wrong. It is cruel of you to stand by a whole week and do nothing.

oh, oh. it sounds like he may have ingested something that's not good for kitties....string, Christmas decorations....You need to get him to a vet a.s.a.p. Poor thing. I hope he's okay. The vet will be able to give you a proper diagnosis.
