I think there is probably no way for security reasons, but is there an internet site with anything like that?

Its just lately I feel like telling some random soldier to hang in there, and thank them, all that good stuff...
I can't help it man, I'm an American Extremist, for the troops, down with the troops.
Some of you will get my meaning...

thanks guys for the info, I'm disappointed there is no apparent way, but now that I think of it- I'd much rather see them talk to their loved ones than waste time with me...in that sense, its ok.
So I went and did the next best thing...AnySoldier.com and I'm gonna have a ball sending some goodies! Hope they like Granola bars...hehe.

You just did. "HI" and thank you so much for the good wishes. There are about 6 of us in my office here at BAF Afghanistan and we wish you a happy holiday.

Having been there twice, the use of a phone/internet is very very limited. My second time in Iraq there was a small phone center and a tent to use the internet. Both of those places always had very very long lines. When I used the phone (every so often) I wanted to talk to people I wanted to talk to. You know?

Boy aren't you the wishful thinker. Do you think that by any stretch of the imagination that the Soldiers serving over there would be allowed access to the daily stories of incompetence that are reported over here? No way. Put it this way. There was a soldier over in Iraq that was asked what they thought about Rumsfeld stepping down, his reply was, "Who's Rumsfeld?"

I might be going there very soon and the info that I've hear is that there are stations where you can use wirreless internet. I doubt you can use it for chatting because Gov. computers are protected with programs to prevent people to access chatting sites to avoid viruses. However, I bet they can e-mail

My boyfriend is in Iraq and I talk to him all the time in Yahoo IM , even get to see him on the webcam sometimes. As long as they have access to a computer they should be able to chat. When I was in country I used to get into chat rooms when I was bored.

Listen Mama Boy:
You said "...I'm an American Extremist, for the troops, down with the troops...."
I got news for you: GO AND SERVE IN THE MILITARY! That way you don't have to find a way to chat with any of them! You will be one of them! Once there, you can chat and maybe do some more all you want!!!!

In the uk if you are a friend of relative then you can, you need their BFPO number though. This allows you to talk via post.
(and email i think- someone will print it off and deliver it to them)
