Fact: There are pictures of Him smiling, I have seen them... Statues, I don't know about but I imagine there are. Statues tend to be more inclined to more subdued, reflective purposes in Christianity for some reason I think. Although, I imgaine if you wandered into enough Catholic buildings and churches with all of their statues I can't imagine you wouldn't find one soon enough...

Some artists have painted Him smiling.
It is what the artist thinks represents Jesus. Some do Jesus an injustice.
Jesus isn't confined to art representations of Him.

Well, He is knows as the "Man if Sorrows" after all. :) Perhaps that's why? Although I have seen some pictures where He is smiling. Not sure if any of them are famous ones or not, but I've seen a few in churches and the like.
My answer is just opinion. :)

Since we do not know what the Lord looks like then to have a picture up or a statue in our homes as a representative of Christ falls under idolatry. Satan is a cunning one and will use anything to put up idols in our minds when it comes to the Lord. We hold onto something that is not the Lord Jesus and even in worship satan will inject these images into our minds. I used to have pictures of " Jesus " in my home and was strongly lead by the Lord to cleanse my home from any form of idols. Our Lord indwells us in such a dear way. We do not need these props to experience Him day by day in our lives. He is IN us. When the disciples knew the Lord as a man it was hard for them to understand Him in His invisible presence. So even after His resurrection he tarried for 40 days.. appearing and disappearing to teach them that He is NOW in them.. Today we are faced with the opposite. We know the Lord only in an invisible way but we need to be careful to not try to make and form attachments that the enemy will use to defraud us to substitute the Real Indwelling Lord for an image or picture. I'd go before the Lord and get a clear leading on how to deal with this matter. If there is any nudging from the Lord to put these pictures and images away from you then obey Him. Be blessed sandy

Because after Jesus died and they laid him to rest in the tomb they placed a sacred cloth over his face. After He resurrected the cloth was the only thing left behind. The cloth had a picture of His face on it. It had been in some sacred place in some Holy temple somewhere. Probably by the pope or the original Bible or somewhere. All drawings and statues and other things are based on the picture on the cloth left behind from when He was dead. Dead people don't smile.

utter nonsense. I've seen hundreds of smiling Jesus images. These are in his likeness. With regards to fundamentalists that deny artistic representations Jesus can be drawn because he walked among us, he took on flesh, God is revealed in Jesus. Of course if you choose to deny the incarnation than I'll assume you also deny Jesus is God. oye-vye these Puritan zealots it must be a bland world to be one.
