well i have 2 boys both under 1.
but if i were to buy them something like a guitar i would expect it to last a bit longer than 3 years.
if there is nothing wrong with your current one why do u need a new one?
i dont know if id be mad but christmas can get frustrating for parents. maybe your mother has already bought you a christmas gift and was just a bit annoyed that you are still going on about a guitar!

I have to admit as I get older, I realize there are are always two sides to the story especially when talking about an argument that happened between a child and a parent. You see it one way and she sees it another. Since we don't know her side, if I were you I would tell her that you didn't mean to upset her and ask her why she got she got upset. Communication can really help a relationship between a child and parent. Good Luck!
Its OK to be excited about the guitar but it might be getting old for your mom to hear about all the time. Try backing off a bit about it!

It depends. #1What is your mom's current financial sitch?
#2 How committed are you to playing guitar? In other words, are you going to actually play it, or is it just going to gather dust? Why don't you offer to come up with half the money ? What about asking mom to talk to relatives that she knows are going to get you something and ask them to make a monetary contribution instead.
#3 This is the oldest trick in the book, Mom is going to act mad, but she is going to get for you anyway.
Bottom line, it's not easy, or cheap, being a parent, so cut mom some slack. Try to figure out if your guitar center has a payment plan and ask mom for the downpayment money, and you pay the rest.
Lest we forget... If you read any guitar magazine worth its ink, you will read of countless guitarists, yes Zakk Wylde too, who started out on a cheap guitar and didn't get decent gear until they got serious. My question to you... How serious are ya?
I hope to be reading about you in a future guitar magazine someday, hope things work out for you.
Oh yeah almost forgot, you could always sell your soul to the devil for a new guitar. It worked for Zacky Vengeance.

It might make me think. If my son was a good musician I would buy him a $1500 guitar. But if he was just starting out I would tell him that I would get him a less expensive one and see where he took it. $500 Is not to bad. I just paid $300 for a banjo (don't laugh dude) and it was a cheaper one.

Maybe she just can't afford that much money this year. Try asking her, when things have calmed down. The two of you can probably come to an agreement that would make both of you happy. Trust me your mom would give you the world if she could, it probably just was a bad day. Stressful times. Talk to her. Good Luck.

She is probably upset about the cost 500 is alot of money for a family to spend. It may have shocked her also that they could cost so much ( at least til she gets to the store and sees just how high they go....) Be happy with what you get she probably will do the best she can.Tell her you will be happy with what she can afford.

No, I would have laughed in your face and told you $500 is too much for a guitar, but I wouldn't have flipped out about it. Why would someone?
