Working out puts your body under stress, and sometimes your body can have a hard time telling the difference between this good stress and bad stress (like being sick.) Also, working out can release the stress hormone Cortisol, which can lower the immune system.

To counter it, take Airborne starting a couple of days before you workout, and maybe twice a week for the first two weeks of your workout. Also, avoid other types of stress, drink lots of water, and try to get 8 hours of sleep a night.

And don't let the cold discourage you. Staying fit is so essential to long term health.

I know right where you're coming from, though. I get the same, stupid thing whenever I start hitting the gym after a break. It goes away as long as I'm consistent for a couple of weeks.

Also, taking vitamin E every day is supposed to help control cortisol. Might be worth a shot.

Good luck!

When you work out, you're obviously working yourself to the point of exhaustion. this impairs your immune system (as does stress, etc) and a gym is not exactly a clean place. If i had to guess, i would think your immune system is running a bit ragged anyways, so the extra strain on your system makes it hard for your body to fight off the cold virus before it gets established. try taking more vitamin c, since this might help, and try putting less strain on your body during a workout to see if it improves the situation.

Your body needs to be in a healthy shape, nutritionally, before you start working out. I don't know how hard you work out, I am sure you know that you have to condition your body and gradually increase the amount of exercise so that your body get a chance to build up resistance and does not get run down. Finally, you need to take plenty of water when exercising to avoid dehydration which contributes to bringing down your body's natural resistance against viruses & bacterias.

I hope this answered your question.
