my laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote which I have had for nearly 2 years, recently my McAfee Antivirus ran out and I purchased a new disk from PC World which I installed, however there was a problem with it as it kept asking me every day and sometimes several times per day to re-register it when I was on-line of which I did, everytime and after 8 days of this, it finally asked me to uninstall and then re-install my McAfee anti Virus, since then It has been OK and has not kept asking me to repeat registration, however now my problem is that the internet is really slow and nearly as slow as dial up, it can take up to 3 minutes to load a page, yet when I check my connection speed it usually tells me that I am connected and that the signal strength is either "excellent or very good." I have also just purchased and installed 2 new memory chips thinking that this would help speed things up as I had a message telling me that I needed more memory, but this has not helped at all...please advise

Yes, the LINK quality may be excellent - but the data ain't flowing.
It's like having a really clear phone line, but nobody is talking.

lots of different settings that can affect this.

Packet size - keep it BIG for broadband. And clear out your internet cache & temp files. This can seriously slow it down.

I might also suggest that you are getting low on space on your HARD DRIVE. To check this - go to MY COMPUTER and RIGHT CLICK on your 'C' drive and select PROPERTIES. You will see the used space & free space. As a temporary fix - run the DISK CLEANUP with all the options ticked.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

doesnt sound like a virtual memory problem...its sounds like a virus. you should download AVG. its a free program and takes a while to run but it will tell you what is wrong with your pc. its not like the other programs out there..like once you run them it will only delete a few things in hopes that you will buy the product. this is a full running program and it works gr8.

here is the site:

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

also protect your pc with peer guardian and windows defender.

http://www.peerguardian.com/

http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=windows%20defender&tag=srch

i run all of these programs on my pc and have no problems. all 3 of my wireless pc's run gr8!

ps. peer guardian blocks the government from spying on your pc!

It sounds like there is spyware in your machine. Start with a defragment and then get a good spyware to check your machine.
