christmas isactually derived from a pagan holliday, the tree is a pagan symbol of renewal of life. the eating of ham, the holly, the mistletoe, the giving of presents, are alll pagan traditions."
the only thing christian about christmas is that you pretend christ was born on this day, which every biblical scholar knows christ wasnt actually born on december 25th.

Yule - winter solstice celebration
Sol Invictus - celebration of 2 deities, Sol Invictus (unconquered sun) and Mithras (sun of righteousness). December 25th was considered the date of the winter solstice, the date that the sun "proved" itself to be unconquered.

i "thumbs-upped" you. Xmas really has no point. In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses(they're considered christioans) do not celebrate Christmas.

No1 really knows when Jesus Christ was born! But we celebrate it on December 25th even though there are many scholars who believe that it was NOT on that day. christmas is now just a day to see Santa(some creepy, old fat guy that breaks into your house and eats your food every Xmas eve), get presents, and sing around the christmas tree.

I am Christian. I celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus. I am also an ancient history major and I know Jesus was not born on Christmas, scholars have concluded that it was around April 17.I still celebrate the birth of Jesus on Dec 25.The only thing you are right about is we got that date from the winter solstice. And as for the pagan thing.... please!

I was raised Jewish, but my husband's family is Christian. I do know the origins, but since I have no emotional ties either way, I do not care. For me, it's a whole day of guilt-free cookie eating.

The "Real" meaning of Christmas is to remember and celebrate the advent of Christ Jesus...God becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Thus it began as "Christ's Mass".
