I'm looking to purchase one of those educational, interactive, video games for my 3 1/2 year old son. I keep reading mixed reviews for both. Whats your experience with these products and which would you recommend?

I think there are more educational toys besides video games and the television.

How about some toys that get his imagination going instead of toys that just tell him what to do?

I'll say the Vsmile from my experience with my niece. I have one wrapped under the tree for my 26m old son. It really depends on what skill set you want you 3yr old to improve upon, and their personality. My son is 2 and he like puzzles, letters, etc.

My friend's son got the Vsmile a year ago @ 3, and he is playing the Xbox now. lol

My hotlist, at least for my now 2yr old.
#1 - Leap Alphabet Fridge Magnets - I got the upper and lower case sets. He knew both sets of letters by 19months. He now knows all the sounds, etc. We are started to put small words together.
#2 - The small wooden USA puzzle. He doesn't know the state names, he only reference the pictures on them, but he can put the entire thing together in no time flat. The puzzles in which every piece has it's own slot doesn't interest him anymore.
#3 - Books! Any an every kind. They are little sponges and take everything in. My son likes book in which he can count things on the pages, etc.

PS - It is good to have toys like cars/trains etc just for plain ol fun.
Boys will be boys!

My 4 yo daughter has the V-Smile and loves it. The games for her age are very educational. She can spell all the 3 letter words from the Pooh game. :)

By the way, she definitely has an imagination. As a matter of fact she is sitting on my bed right now saying that she is swimming in the river trying to save her animals (her stuffed animals LOL).

A 3 1/2 year old boy should be interested in cars and dinosaurs and pirates and things....not t.v. Give him some games that make him use his imagination. video games are BAD habits to instill in children....think about it. You give him video games now, and in a few years he'll want the really violent ones. Do you want that?
