YES!!!
A suspension is a suspension. Besides if you didn't have prior insurance you rate is probably already higher. Any lapse in coverage effects your rate. If you didn't have insurance at the time of the ticket then it's not actually a "fix it" ticket, it would be uninsured motorist. A "fix it" ticket would be if you had insurance but didn't have your proof with you at the time. This doesn't mean that there not requiring you to get insurance. In fact they'll likely require an SR22 which would also effect your rate. Good luck trying to get around it.

The failure to appear was for not appearing. Failure to appear is a misdemeanor, it's a serious charge. You should clean that up.
I had a fix-it ticket that I didn't notice required an appearance. I contacted the court, asked for a court date, drove 300 miles, appeared, apologized for my earlier failure to appear, and offered to plead guilty to the original charge if they drop the FTA. I did it personally, probably shoulda used a lawyer. The judge was like "Fine. Next!"
Not sure if it'll affect your driving record, it's a criminal thing.

I don't believe that an FTA (failure to appear) will affect your car insurance rate since this is a legal matter...however, it may affect you chance of getting the vehicle registered and other issues (including a possible warrant for your arrest). I highly recommend that you clear it up by contacting the court that you were required to attend.
But I would be really surprised if the FTA affects your car insurance rates as insurance companies should not have any access to this information.

failure to appear for what? if the case wasn't about driving then no it shouldn't affect your insurance but if it was about driving depends on the case.

I'm betting it will. These days insurance companies check into everything about you that they can get their hands on. Your credit score, medical history, and everything in-between, as well as your legal record.
