No, capitalism is the reason for the season these days.

The reason for the season as more to do with the tilt of the earth and the distance from the sun.

Now, the holiday on the other hand has shared roots in Christianity, Paganism, and Capitalism. Best wishes.

no not really. Christmas is based in ancient Pagan rituals to honor the passing of the "dark" and the renewal of the sun. as the days get longer after the winter solstice.

so in truth the simple fact that the days got shorter due to the earth's rotation and that there is a single day where they seem to become longer. is the reason fro the season.

however you choose to celebrate this is up to you. whatever god that you believe in would be happy to see you and your family taking some time to live your lives and to enjoy your families.

no, actually most of all the christmas "traditions" are actually derived from the pagan holliday.

christmas tree is a pagan symbol for renewal of life
holly and mistletoe came from pagan traditions
giving gifts was a pagan tradition
eating ham derived from a pagan tradition.
the only thing christan about christmas is that they have taken it as their own holliday and renamed it.

infact most biblical scholars know christ wasnt actually born on december 25th.

(actually this date was picked to be the date of the winter solstice, and celebrated for the god whos name meant "unconquered sun" and was celebrated at this time because it was the day that it proved itself to be unconquered.)

For many it is. However, it's interesting to note that no where in the scriptures does it say that Christ was born around december 25th. Christmas actually comes from pagan celebrations.

NO!!! It is steeped in pagan origin, and the two times birthdays are mentioned in the bible, they were done so negatively-Jesus and his disciples never celebrated birthdays. Don't kid yourself this has NOTHING to do with Jesus!
