If so, what is it like? I am thinking of moving there from California. I need a more affordable place to live and get more for my money. I want to stay on the west coast. Thanks!

It's been some years since I lived there but it hasn't really changed that much. It's the rural areas to the south of Portland Oregon. (About 40 minutes drive) It's of an older neighborhood with above average number of senior folks but it's very tranquil and clean. It's a mix of industrial, residential and agricultural land over a fairly wide spread for a townhood.
If you are on a budget, there are dozens of towns further south or south east that can provide even better value with about the same quality of Sherwood. Like McMinville for example. Frankly, if you're from Cali, most everything in Oregon should be tame in comparison.

my great aunt Cecil lives there, she hates it but she also hates everything. I have been there a few times. its a total trash heap. rats live in better garbage than that quaint little town. IT also smells as if someone urinated throughout the whole town,

No. But it is less expensive. Check out Craigslist to see rentals and homes for sale. Also check out housingmaps.com to see it on a map.
