For just riding? Quarters, Arabians, Mustangs. Any horse'd do as long as they're broke to do what you want them to do, and your experiance level.

Sorry it looks like all your answerers are in the U.S. Is a jenson a shire cross or a type of full draft? Draft crosses tend to make excellent riding horses. Some drafts do to but not as often, they are generally calm with smooth gaits but aren't really practical for full time riding. What they go for varies tremendously from horse to horse and place to place so it's hard to say. The market is still pretty slow especially in winter so they're reasonably priced if not down right cheap. I would really look for the "horse for you" more than the breed. Good luck

I've never heard of jenson shires, but I'd suggest a quarter horse

Your best bet on buying a horse (for pleasure riding) is a Quarter Horse. Look for one with a description of "gentle or good-natured" for the best attribute. You can find a nice one for $200 - $700. I wouldn't get one less than 4 or 5 years old and you don't necessarily need one that is papered. It is best to take someone with you when you decide to get one. The seller should let you ride the horse before you make up your mind.

AFTER 3 GENERATIONS OF HORSEMANSHIP IN MY FAMILY THAT DEALS WITH PERFORMANCE HORSES, FROM WHAT YOU DESCRIBE A QUARTER HORSE WOULD BE THE MOST LOGICAL. START WITH A FOUR A FIVE YEAR OLD GELDING THAT HAS BEEN WELL TRAINED, AND NOT TO BIG(GETTING ON AND OFF GETS A LOT HARDER WHEN YOU GET OLDER) AND NOT TO HEAVY (MUSCLE WISE). QUARTER HORSE TEND TO BE VERY WELL MUSCLED, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAINED. NOW THE FUN BEGINS START SHOPPING! DON'T BUY THE FIRST ONE UNTIL YOU MAKE LOTS OF CALLS AND SEEN LOTS OF HORSES. TRY A RIDDING CLUB OR ANY SOCIAL EVENT AND MEET PEOPLE WITH HORSES.

I would recommend the Arabian...they are very versatile and will do just about anything you teach them. They are perfect to love and care on too, they get attached to you so the love comes right back to you...I've owned an Arabian for five years now, he's great
