It's a touchy situation and one that I am sure is painful for you to observe.

I had neighbors with a cat living totally outdoors in all kinds of weather. At fifteen she was dying of hyperthyroidism. I sort of snuck into the situation. They and their children were away during the day. I ran her over to the vet - we deflead her, combed out her mats, etc. Eventually I paid to have the blood work done that explained why she was so thin and shabby looking. I fed her a can of cat food every day for a month and she did not gain any weight. I explained the medical condition to them and said she needed medication twice a day to control the excess hormone in her system. I asked them to call the vet to confirm that diagnosis. They never did. Eventually I offered to take her into my home and treat her. They let me. She was a perfectly marvelous cat. She was euthanized last Friday as at age 22 and 1/2. Her kidneys could no longer support her in a happy life.

So your neighbors may be neglectful because of financial constraints, ignorance, or just indifference and I am afraid if you want to help the cat you may have to just take the responsiblity for it yourself.

I do hope you can do something for the cat. It shoudn't have to suffer from human negligence.

Why aren't they taking your neighbors cats to the vet??? That kinda sounds like animal abuse! March in front of your neighbors face and say TAKE YOU POOR LITTLE SICK CAT TO THE VET!

You can call Animal Control and leave an anonymous tip. But I would really take a look at the specific situation here. Is the cat really old? Have they taken it to the vet numerous times and there's nothing left to do?

First of all, this is illegal and crosses many animal laws

Secondly, call animal control (Or vets/policemen) to inspect this immediantly, its bad enough the cat is sick but ignoring it's medical needs is against the law.

It is a crime in most (if not all) states to deny your animal medical care. The SPCA in most states have a special police like unit with pretty much the same power that regular cops have. Give the SPCA in your area to find out what you can do.

Gonna have to call the local animal control...Sometimes you have to keep on them and keep calling...If they come and the issues still aren't resolved they will come and take the cats
