Robert likes me. As shallow as it is, Robert is overweight. Yet, robert is one of my best friends(please dont think of me as shallow, the explination isnt done yet.)
We have talked on AIM lots of times, about how much he likes me and normal convorsations as well. He doesnt flirt with me at school, which is ok becasue its a small school and rumors/suspicions spread fast. I daydream about going out with him sometimes in class...and dreams too. But sometimes i like the idea and sometimes i woulnt consider it.
Do you ever get the feeling that like whenever someone likes you, u just sorta like them back becasue ur happy that u meet up to someones standards? I am getting that feeling. I would go out with him, but i dont want to hurt him if we break up. hes more of that brothely figure...i hope this is enuff info...and i dont want him to stop liking me before i know whats going on lol...
What should I do?

Watch the movie "Just friends" with Ryan Renolds.
It'll have all your answers.
Try a date or two. He's your friend, and he won't try to hurt you.
However, breaking up may end your relationships. All of them.
It's your choice.

If you see him as a brotherly figure you should let him know so that he does not get his hopes up with you, HOWEVER, you started the story by saying that he is overweight.... maybe its not that you don't want to hurt his feeling, maybe you are just embarrassed to go out with him because of his weight...
Stop being shallow and look at him as a person, not just an overweight guy that likes you.

If you really do like him then the relationship will probably go far. It seems you may have some doubts though, since you are afraid of what may happen if you ever broke up. Maybe you should talk to him about it, and maybe agree to date him, but not be in a relationship and see how that works out.

Be honest with yourself. Tell him you see him as more of a brother. But spare his feelings about the fact that your not attracted to him. I feel you need to be attracted to someone inside and out. If that makes me shallow then fine but the way i see it is what you may find unattractive someone else my find dreamy or cute. I believe there is someone out ther for everyone. Ask yourself this...Will you be happy with him even though he's overweight.

ok it sounds like this guy really likes you and he is a good guy. whatever you do is going to hurt him a little. i have been in love with a friend who did not feel the same and her sympathy friend like shows of affection were cruel as i misread them. you need to express your feelings indirectly, make comments about your ideal man and how much you value your male friends (him) and how you would never change it. He will get the jist quickly without feeling like he has been shot down. in my experience he'll always hold a torch for you but hopefully he'll find someone else.
Remember it is fine that you are not attracted to him, we don't choose who we like and your daydreams are just you trying to see what it would be like-you're trying to convince yourslf you could like him in that way but chances are it would end in tears.

Go on a date with him. If you still like him, then why not go for it? Who cares if he is chubby? You never said he was ugly so, im guessing he is cute yet chubby..anyway, if you like him, then you really don't have a problem with his looks. But go on a little date with him as a friend. If it doesnt lead into anything, stay friends.

I had a 'Robert' in my life. We waited until after high school to date. He got serious and I just got nauseated. It wasn't his weight but it was. Meaning he liked me too much because he had trouble getting other gals to like him becuase of his weight. I wasn't ready to get serious and we broke up. We became friends again later. Best of luck.

attraction has its mighty way of working like that. the second you know someone likes you, whether you want to or not, your feelings are increased towards them. sometimes dramatically, sometimes not. does that mean you're in love? well, no... but that's just the way it works. think to yourself, is it HIM you love... or the thought of BEING loved that you love?
