Schizophrenia is a disease that usually has a onset period where symptoms become increasingly prevalent over time. It sounds like a type called "paranoid" schizophrenia. If you are sure that your friend is being serious (it is sometimes hard to tell because it is often hard to believe) then it is important that he seek psychiatric help immediately. Schizophrenia cannot be cured but can in most instances be controlled by medication prescribed by a psychiastrist. Good Luck.

Yeh schizophrenia does come and go...it has positive symptoms and negative symptoms and these affect people in different way! Some people have all symptoms always and others have fewer symptoms some of the time...it's possible that your friend is still at the early stages (usually in men aged 17-25) and thats why he is able to think rationally on occasions!!!
I work on a research department which looks at schizophrenia and there's much more to it then just hearing voices...but it is a big part of it! I suggest you get your friend to speak to his GP who will then recommend him to the right people...currently there is no drug to cure schizophrenia though there are many antipsychotics (which would be prescribed as needed) which ease the symptoms.
It is also possible that your friend isn't suffering from scizohphrenia and maybe just from persecutory delusion either way he needs to see his GP and seek the right help!
Good luck...

Schizophrenia is a condition where there is confusion between reality and thoughts. Sometimes the senses and thoughts convey impressions which the person believes are real. - like hearing voices or seeing things, smells etc.
It is not continuous but comes and goes.
But for some, these are real at all times and for others they are real only during the episode.
Often the person does not think that what he/she imagines is not logical.
Treatment may have to continuous and life-long. Often these thoughts lead one to commit suicide!

Yes, very much so to the point where it almost seems unbelievable. I had a friend who suffered with this and one day he thought people off the tv were out to get him.He was a very good looking, intelligent well-educated bloke. I saw him one day with some friends and we had a drink and a good laugh together. A few days later he took his own life. It is a very tragic illness, all you can do is be supportive and hope the doctors can help. He needs to see a doctor who will then probably refer him to a psychiatrist.

Yes, schizophrenia (congrats on the correct spelling) is frequently episodic, with periods of psychosis. But daily bouncing back and fourth is certainly an atypical presentaion, usually the psychotic episode lasts weeks or even months (absent medical or therapeutic intervention).
IF your friend is using THC or meth, that would be a more likely explanation.

Yes he needs to see a specialist. It can progress to a worser state if not caught at this stage. It's a difficult disease as it affects the thought processes.

Someone IS trying to control him and his name is Satan. Seriously. He needs to find a non-denominational Christian church and if he is comfortable there, ask how he can be saved. Salvation only means that you confess to God that you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive you of your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart. That's it.
