colouring, play with blocks, use his toys with him ...
Interaction is the main thing. Almost anything interests a 2yo for a short period.

Painting, coloring, playing with bath toys, playing dress-up with mom's or dad's clothes, reading a book, playing clapping games or teaching him nursery rhymes.
Since it's close to Christmas, how about making some Christmas crafts?
Bring some construction paper and safety scissors, maybe some glitter paint. Cut out a green circle with a hole in the middle and let him draw on it with red crayon. After he's done put his hand in some glitter paint and put his handprints on it. Draw a bow at the top. It's a wreath for his mom!
Cut out strips in the colors he chooses. Let him help glue them into circles or just color on them if he's not that advanced yet. Make a paper chain to decorate the tree!
Hope those ideas help you choose what to do. I think making something for Christmas is an especially good idea.

Coloring, play doh, stickers & construction paper are all good bets. If you don't have time to go out and buy anything, improvise with your household stuff. Dig out some measuring cups & spoons, strainers, slotted spoons, whatever. Use rice, dried pasta, beans, cheerios, etc. You can scoop & dump & layer the stuff - do it on the kitchen floor - they'll even love helping sweep it up when you're done.
Any interective thing - making hand turkeys with pen & paper, singing christmas songs, collecting leaves outside. Make mini-pizzas for dinner and let them "make" their own with various toppings. A nice long bath with bubbles (and some of your kitchen stuff if you don't have bath toys) is fun, too.

Maybe your friend can bring some of her son's toys along., so you won't have to spend money on any. Some dvd's would be good too. Boys like stickers just like girls do, so if she has any stickers you could give him little tattoos.(just kidding), put a few on him and then peel one off the sheet at a time, hand it to him and he will find a spot for it! You can get out your plastic containers from the kitchen, and some things to put in them. thread spools, plastic measuring cups, etc.
MAKE A TENT WITH A BIG SHEET DRAPED OVER A COUPLE OF CHAIRS, KIDS LOVE THAT
If he is right there in front of you and you can make sure he doesn't put any in his mouth, you can make a macaroni, and bean, glued design...like a mosaic. Don't look away, kids put beans up their noses and in their ears!!
finger paint, color, sing songs, dance.

i have 3 girls,a 5y old,4 y old,and a 2 y.old, all into different things,iv found with my 2y.old that books with pictures are good,if you can buy some paper, woolworths sell a pack for about £1.99 has all different colours, shapes and animal shapes and some pritt-stick glue(no mess),they love to rip up paper and stick it to another bit of paper....(*WARNING-donot leave 2y.old with glue whilst you nip off to toilet, you will come back to find the glue and paper stuck to the walls)
Nursery rhymes they love trying to copy the actions-i.e-incy wincy spider, round and round the garden etc,
if the 2y.old gets upset or worried about parents reasurrance helps and doing something to take the childs mind of the parents not being there, e.g-reasurrace that mummy/daddy are comeing back then say "i know shall we read this story"
hopefully these suggestions help, failing the suggestions any cartoon on the box is good.

It might be short notice but go round there with a selection of kids' songs, especially if you can find ones with actions, and teach him some of them.
You could play something like "giant robot" where he gets you to move by pressing "buttons" on your hands.
Pretend to be very weak when he plays with you - kids love it when they get the feeling that they can move adults around with minimal effort.
Good for you for looking for something different. Good luck and have fun.

two year olds love building towers with bricks and knocking them down, simple jigsaw puzzles being read to, colouring painting, cooking. I work with children in the baby room with younger children who love all of the above. A bowl of water and some ducks (supervised), pots and pans they love them.
Hope this gives u some ideas.

All I can say is just talk to him. Children of even 2 years old have a preference to what they want to do. Try suggesting things til they agree and do you best with what you have to improvise. My 2 year old son absolutely loves to make binoculars out of old toilet rolls, and it keeps him happy for hours on end lol
