They are very high energy dogs so they need to have a job, if not given enough to do they can be very destructive and snippy. I suggest that you research the many different breeds before you get a dog.

Border Collie's are great dogs, just high energy, plan to walk, run, play ball etc for a few hours a day at least. Another great family dog is the Lab family of dogs and Golden Retrievers.

Border collies are bred with the urge to herd. They are high energy level. So if you don't have a big area for this dog to run, then don't get one.
I suggest you look up dogs and their traits to get a better idea of what kind of dog would work with your living conditions.
Please give a thought to adopting a dog off death row at your local animal shelter.

Border collies are great dogs but they need to be with a very active onwer. They are a working breed and they need to have a job to do and get lots of exercise or they are miserable.
They really need to have something to herd or be worked in obedience or fly ball or agility. Something to do.
They are lovelable and do will with other animals and kids but needs to have a job and if you are not an acitve family or active owner you are not going to do well with this breed.
They need much more than a walk each day.

A good dog would be a Basset Hound, they do not need as much room to run around as a Border Collie.

it entirely depends on your activity level if a border collie is a good dog for you or not.
if you are a HIGHLY active person who likes to spend ALOT of time stimulating a dogs mind then that would be the dog for you.
IF you are not an active person then i STRONGLY suggest looking at a different breed.
you need to look at your own lifestyle and then do your reaserch until you find a dog that will suit your life.

Border collies are great family dogs. They have to be kept very very busy or they will find stuff (and you will probably not like it!) to do. They require a lot of exercise, they MUST be obedience trained. They tend to be very healthy & hearty and require minimal grooming.

Border collies are high energy dogs that require a lot of physical and mental excerise to keep them happy and non-destructive. Not to mention they also require a job, something to do whether it be fetching the newspapper, mail, your slipper, guarding your ducks, getting you a cold beer.
They are very intelligent and easy to train and will create their own jobs to do, usually something destructive.

Golden Retrievers are awesome dogs! It's like having a human being there with you. When you are sad, they are right there. They are very intelligent, loving dogs! If I were you, I would look into getting one - - - it's an experience you'll never forget!

My cousin has one (Jasmine) and she's just great! She's about 12-13 now and is still the same sweet puppy that she was when she was actually a puppy! And she just adores my cousin. When he sits down, she lays down on the floor and puts her head on his foot, so just in case she falls asleep she'll know if he gets up to go somewhere.
