Just be there for the guy.
It's the best thing he could ever ask for.

Well, nobody can make another person happy, happiness comes from within. If you are trying to brighten his day or change his outlook, that is another story! Have a few sweet little notes (complementing him, mentioning fun times you've had together, telling him how much it means to you to have him in your life, etc) and when you go to his house or ride in his car, leave a little note that he will find at a later date (silverware drawer, cupboard, in the pages of a magazine he's reading, refrigerator, under the tv remote, etc.)...Plan a special weekend afternoon going to a new cafe/restaurant, pack a thermos with hot chocolate for the ride, do lunch, then a museum or a play or concert...

I don't want to sound cliche, but sometimes the smallest things or gestures can make a huge difference to someone. Here are a few of my ideas:
- Cook his favorite meal and have dinner with candles
- Write a letter/list that lists all the reasons why you care for him
- Go for a long walk....maybe end it with a picnic
- Make him a mix CD and listen to it together
- Sometimes silly things can be fun....like going to a carnival/amusement park

You cannot "make" anyone anything...people are happy because they choose to be or not. You can do positive things however, that may help lighten or brighten his mood.
You know him though, and I do not...so I don't know what he'd like...what about surprising him with lunch one day (at work or school, which ever is appropriate)...invite him over to chill and watch a movie and have snacks....learn to play his favorite video or computer game so he'll have someone to do that with...
...stuff like that...

Dont know, my girlfriend didn't make me to happy all the time. Half the time she would be all down on herself and anything i tried to do would not help her. She was very negative about everything she did. Apparantly, all she needed was a new guy in her life and she went back to being happy. Its not like she still does her homework or anything like that. That ****.

Leave him little love notes in the pockets of his shirt,s his visor in his car, places where he'll find them later on in the day. It's sure tomake him smile and make a bad day go away, at least for a little while.

i think that only true happiness that you can offer him is being yourself. dont waste his time pretending to be someone else or someone who likes to please others by buying something all the time.
sometimes all it takes is window shopping downtown or staying in watching movies of your guys' interest all day. sometimes all it takes is little notes to him telling him what you like about him.
