Dog licences went out years ago in the UK, these days resposible owners either get their pets micro chipped or at least have full details on a disc attached to the dogs collar.

I believe that they all do, but it also may depend on where you live. I would check with the humane society and ask what the requirements are for your area. Where I am from, ALL dogs need to be registered. If found that they are not, then there is a HUGE fine!!! So if you decide against it, just be careful you don't get caught. Otherwise you may have some big $$$$$$$$ to pay.

Under the Control of Dogs Act 1986 all dog owners are required to have a dog licence. You must get all your dogs shots done as well.
It dosnt matter what breed of dog you have. If you ever loose your dog, or if it runs away, or anything, and it dosnt have its tags and you dont have a licence your dog might end up getting punished for your wrong doing. (and by that I mean it might end up being put to sleep)
Good luck =]

there is no dog licence in the UK.
Once again I see we have loads of Americans putting in their oar with totally irrelevant answers. There is no licence and no rabies in the UK. This is the UK answers section. Stick to answering on your own country's site since you know nothing about the UK.

In the UK you are not required to microchip or license your dog.
However, when you take your dog out in public places (outside your house) you are required by law to put a collar on your dog with a disc or container with your name and full postal address on/in it. This is the only current legal requirement for you as a dog owner.

There might be laws for shelters, about giving priority to licensed dogs. This could mean, in a worst case scenario, that if your dog gets lost, the shelter could put him up for adoption or put him to sleep. They'll probably scan the chip, though. Ask your vet.

in the US most places require you to licence them. It's only like $6 a year, well where i live in upstate ny. It's probably cheaper in most other states since NY is really really expensive. One of my friends didn't get her dog licenced and someone came to their house and wrote them up for it and they had to get the dog licenced and shots in about 2 days and cost them about $150.

usually you have to get your dog licenced in the town in which you are living. They do not normally cost that much and if the animal is fixed it will be cheaper. you do not have to AKC, UKC, or anything other regegestration things. Check with your towns rules. Hope this helps
