Ive just re-installed SP 2 in home edition and I just need to know as it says in my System that I have Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service pack 2.
Is the version 2002 right or has the SP2 being re-installed down graded it?

yes its the latest, but remember to download all updates and security patches, you can do this by clicking Windows Update in your start menu (the green box that says start on the bottom left hand corner of your screen)

.
The term SP indicates Service Pack
When windows or other application issues a Service Pack
it updates as newer version.
The higher the numer the newer the version
2 is higher than 1 so... 2 is the newest.
The service packs are fixes for bugs and issues in the former version, so ALWAYS download the service packs.
Windows XP SP2 is the latest XP version Operating System
and is now a smooth operating system.
WinXPsp2 does well with Internet Explorer-SP2.
Internet Explorer is the best MS BROWSER now on the market todate.
=========================================
Now the two newest releases are NOT the
two BEST PRODUCTs.
I do NOT recommend the new Windows Vista OS
nor
the new Windows Internet Explorer 7 Browser.
They are both TOO new and full of bugs and problems.
It will take a year to get them running smoothly.
Too many complaints right now.

SP2 is the latest version of win XP. Just go to windows updates and download all the security packs and crucial updates and you will be up to the minute ok.
It is not, obviously, the newest version of windows though. That is windows Vista so, be warned, Microsoft are going to be downgrading XP soon and discontinueing the updates (as they did with '98) so we will all need to get Vista to keep the viruses at bay.
