You paint it with a primer first - I suggest KILZ - it has always worked for me also if you want to try to get the marker off instead of trying to cover you can try a MR. Clean magic eraser (it really good, but I don't know if its that good)

After you do the primer let dry (overnight) and then paint like you normally would

Easiest way is to use an Oil-based primer. Brand name Zinzer 1-2-3- or Kilz. Several coats may need to be applied right over the marker. This stuff works over water stain, crayon, nicotine , just about anything that paint will not stick to or shows through paint. You can also have your paint store tint the primer close to finish color. Saves on finish paint & labor in the longf run.

First paint over the sharpie with shellac. You can get it at a paint store and it will act as a sealer so the sharpie won't bleed through. Then paint the wall with a primer tinted the same shade as the paint. Then paint.

The folks telling you to use KILZ are giving you the right answer, but you can cut down on how many KILZ coats you need with some 80 or 120 grade sandpaper used first. Either way, enough coats of KILZ will hide it, then prime and paint away! Use light coats or you'll get runs and sags that'll have to be sanded. Have a little less fun at your next "gonna paint it next week party" too, maybe?

Try the Mr. Clean eraser. If that doesn't work you will need to use a kilz or other primer under your paint to cover the marker. You could even use Kilz paint. It can be purchased at wal-mart and can be tinted to match your color. Good Luck!

Maybe try painting lots of times in that area. Paint once, wait for it to dry, then paint a next time, and so on until the sharpie is not visible any more.

Use several coats of primer (thick white paint). This will keep the sharpie from showing through.

You'll want to cover the area you wrote on with a primer, then paint.

I would use an oil base stain sealer/stopper like Zinsser. Also, if your wall isn't too porous, you could try removing the marker with super glue debonder which is available at hobby stores.
