I wouldnt let anymore smack my child, especially a school. This is a place where a child should feel safe. I would find a school that doesnt allow this, or i would confront the school. You should be the only one that should be able to touch your child.
I was disgusted yesterday my daughter (7 yrs old) had to pick up rubbish (as punishment) cause she didnt do enough work, while being distracted by another child. Why not find her somewhere else to sit. She is 6 months in remission for leukaemia, she doesnt need to be picking up other feral childrens rubbish (the germs!!!!!)
I wouldnt worry about the others who can not read a question correctly. Obviously their education was limited

You can and should go to your childs school and INSIST that they never use corporal punishment (paddling) on your child. Even though your school district allows it, you do not have to. You can tell them that you will not permit anyone to take their bad day out on your child, and that you want to be notified about any issues that require punishment so that you can choose the most appropriate way to deal with it.
It is so easy for someone to take out their anger on a child. A simple paddling often leads to abuse. A paddling or spanking should only be enough to sting a bit. Psychologists say that the first swat is for the child, anything after that is for the parent or teacher or whoever is doing the swatting.
Pain and hitting is not the most appropriate punishment for most situations that children get in trouble for. Very often taking something away, like tv or games has a better effect. Children learn to hit and scream when they are not happy about something if that is what they are shown works for the adults around them.
I'm going on a bit, and you probably don't want that. I agree with you completely that it is wrong for the schools to paddle your child. I hope you know that the law about open hand and 2 to three swats and no marks is to protect your child. If you feel you need to hit harder and more often, closed fists and bruise your child, please consider getting help for a possible out of control child. Hopefully that is not the case, and you are just mad at your lawmakers and the policy that they can swat your children. Know this; if you send a certified letter which costs less than a dollar or two, stating that you forbid them to use corporal punishment (touching your child in any way), they can NOT do it.
There are actually twenty-three states which still have laws on their books permitting corporal punishment:
Alabama
Arizona
Arkansas
Colorado
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
New Mexico
North Carolina
Ohio
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Wyoming

OK I think I know what you're trying to ask..... I think the school is allowed to use a wooden paddle but you're not maybe because the school is a government institution, they trust the professionals there more than they trust individual parents, to exercise restraint and not actually harm the kid (and don't there have to be witnesses when a kid is paddled at school; whereas at home you and the kid are likely alone?)
Also, if someone at the school spanked your kid with their hand, it would open the door for all kinds of molestation lawsuits and creepy things like that; an actual paddle is more clinical, think about it.
disclaimer: I'M NOT SAYING ANY OF THIS IS RIGHT (or wrong for that matter) I'M JUST GIVING MY PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT THEIR REASONING MIGHT BE!!! thanks!

Recenly in my area there was a story on the news about a kid that was paddled so badly at school he had to be taken to the hospital. The school policy said corporal punishment was okay, but the district banned it, so the teachers are now on suspension, waiting for trial. The parents are furious and obviously suing for child abuse. Really kids should never be paddled at school no matter what, and as for getting charges for paddling your own kid, my advice is to find a different way to punish your kid, probroly one that doesn't involve physical contact.

I got my fanny popped with a board paddle in middle and high school. And you know what? It worked.
So many parents are such pansies today. Sitting in a corner and sending a note home to mommy just does not work. Humiliation in front of a class getting your asss whacked a few time DOES work.
This whole crappy complaining from parents is ridiculous. Its along the same lines as teachers no longer being able to use a red pen to grade papers because the red color is 'detrimental to a child's psyche.' Just silliness.

As a teacher, I can say that there is still paddling in some states. Missouri is one of those states. I've kind of wondered about that myself, although I do see that it makes a major difference in some students' behavior.

well i know i live in texas and if a child misbehaves bad enough in school the parents are informed and the child get a swat with a paddle. Yes they do that. I think its ok if your child is misbehaving and you have tried everything to swat your kid as long as your not hurting them very badly. I dont understand it myself. I dont swat my kid unless he really deserves it and i 've tried everything esle first. and then i just swat him on his behind. but usually a little time out in his room helps.

I don't paddle my children and no one else will either. It is just wrong-its abuse any way I look at it. I would not let my children attend a school that condones spanking of any kind

You just answered your own question. You can paddle your child. It is not abuse. Done to excess sure that is abuse.
As long as an injury is not sustained you really can't classify it as abuse.
