depends on where you get them and your tolerance for pain.to me it just felt like getting scratched and afterwards like an eraser burn.

i am a tattoo aitist and this is what i tell people
DO TATTOOS HURT
Tattoos are known to hurt when they are being performed, but the pain is not intolerable. Certain places on the body hurt more than others, and I’m sure we can all guess where it would! That’s correct, if you are thinking of getting a tattoo on your genitals, then you have picked the most painful place to do so as these are very sensitive areas of your body that tend to have a lot of nerve endings - which bring pain. However these areas are not only the most painful. Your sternum, ribs, hands, and feet are very sensitive. Next most sensitive areas would be your ankles, lower back, neck, under arm, around the groin area, and head. The least sensitive areas, and generally most popular for that reason, are your upper arms or forearms, calves, shoulder blade, outer thigh, and bottom.
It’s also true that each person has different tolerances and some people do not have trouble getting tattooed about anywhere. Women who have birthed children or people who have been through surgeries often say that tattooing is just not that big of a deal, whereas people who have never experienced any extreme to moderate pain often find tattooing to be more difficult or even "quite" painful.
WHAT DOES A TATTOO FEEL LIKE
A tattoo could be described like scratching where you were badly sun burnt. This is the kind of feeling or pain that tattoos are accompanied by. Also, because of the high speed vibration of the tattoo machine, there is often an effect similar to what women experience during electrolysis and men during a haircut at the barber's with a dull clippers or a shave with a dull razor. But no matter how you try to describe it, it is a unique feeling that can only be experienced by someone receiving a tattoo.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE
Small, simple, single color pieces can take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes. Duration for tattooing is affected by complexity and size, color changes, and tolerance to the process. Pieces can also be done in segments. Several pieces, over a period of a month, in short sessions at a time.
HEALING
Generally they look good after two weeks. However, some people can take months to heal, again depending on the individual. A lot this depends on age, health, diet, medication, alcohol consumption, and care of the tattoo after the process is complete.
WHEN NOT TO GET A TATTOO
Pregnant women shouldn't get a tattoo, and people with a lot of chemical sensitivities or allergies should at least discuss this with their artist and doctor prior to getting work done. Also anyone with immune-depressed diseases who normally have difficulty healing on their own. Those with advanced diabetes should not be tattooed, particularly in the lower leg area.
DO TATTOOS CHANGE WITH TIME
What you do depends on how much it affects the tattoo. Typically when men workout, they have to drastically change to stretch out a piece on their arm. The result in this case is that the tattoo may be lighter as well as somewhat distorted. Pregnancy will definitely alter tattoos on the stomach, usually permanently.

3 things:
#1- it depends on your tolerence for pain. if you can't get a shot or you blood taken, you can't handle a tat.
#2 - it depends on the artist. If the artist has a heavy hand, meaning the dig the needle in really deep, then the more painful. The lighter the hand the better.
#3- Where on the body you get the tattoo. There are places on the body that hurt more then others. Close to bones, like ankles, knees, elbows. Or near ribcage.
I have 3 tattoos. One middle lower back, didn't hurt at all. One on the upper part of the butt check, didn't hurt. One on my shoulder blade, hurt!

Tattoos hurt a bit but it depends where, some places are more sensitive than other. I found the area kind of went numb after the first few minutes and it wasn't bad.

Hi,
I have got a tattoo done on my body 5 years back!!!
It was a hillarious feeling!!!
I was excited because of getting a tattoo to be done on me and the type of tatoo of my choice!!!
It was pen sort of needle and some steriods were applied of sort of liquid and wax lotion was applied.
The sensation was quite warm and like a mild sunburn feel in the beginning and later on it felt like being pinched at certain areas while being tattooed.
Later on ,on sensitive areas like bones and the nerve and vein connection close to the skin did hurt alot as though my skin was going to be torn a part,I screamed and the tattoist was a nice bloke he halted and gave me some lollypop to stooth off and distract my attention.
It only hurted really badly when the needle was piercing through the bonny and nerve and vein area of my skin.
But the final out come of my tatoo was grand phemenonal experience to me and all I can say, even after that 5 years,I yet look at my tatoo and feel soooo proud to have got it done.It feels like a trophy on my body and it was worth it giving a go for getting this tattoo done on myself.
I am very proud about it because I love my tatoo to bits and admire it everyday!!!

It depends on the person, where you get the tattoo and how sensitive you are to pain. I know many people who have gotten tattoos and they all had different reactions towards how much it hurt. My aunt got a tattoo on her chest and ankle and she said that the one on her chest hurt but the one on her ankle didn't. One of my old teachers/babysitters had a couple. She said the one on her back hurt a lot but all the other one's did not. There are also certain areas of skin that are more sensitive such as the underside of your arms. It all depends on where you are getting it and how much of a pain tolerance you have.

Everbody's pain level is different. The intensity of pain will mostly depend on the location of the tattoo, however a professional's skills also helps when they have much expierence.

I likened mine to getting a bad sunburn scratched. Not a big deal for me as I have a high pain threshold. The pain goes away as soon as the needle stops. If you're a wuss about pain, no tattoo for you!

Coming from someone who has one, it depends on where you get it. The fattier the area, the more it hurts. A lot of people say it hurts when it goes over bone, but I what I found was that it just made the whole bone vibrate. It was more of a weird sensation than pain.

No matter what people say it all depends on your pain tolerance. Everyone is different. Some people can tolerate pain very nicely and not even feel a tat being done. Others cannot tolerate pain at all and cringe and whine when a tat is being done. It all depends on what you can tolerate.
Hope this helps and good luck!
