The mother of a girl I used to be friends with gets alcohol and drugs for her daughter constantly, plus sells her prescription Oxycontin pills and bottles of alcohol to young high school kids. There is always marijuana in the house. Do I call in the police or somehow get evidence? There's pictures on her daughter's MySpace of drug and alcohol consumption, but would that help? What can I do?

Contact the police for the # of your Social Services Agency and how to contact Child and Human Welfare. The family will have to go under an investigation and drug testing. The police cannot really do much. If found guilty the child will possibly taken into the state's custody. Report this asap. Good luck.

You could do either call the police or child protective services. Usually in cases like this child protective services and police work together to investigate and remove the children from the environment. If you do decide to report this incident please make sure that you point out the MySpace information also. It will help the police department build a stronger case.

You can call the police but the proper people are actually local Child Protective Services-they handle these cases and the police will probably send them but nothing can be done until the CPS approves it.You can find CPS in the yellow pages or call information.I am taking a child abuse course-we just discussed this.

This problem should be handled in a 3 step process!!
(1) Call the police
(2) Call the police
(3) Call the police
If any of those steps fail to provide the results you want then "Call the Police".

Call the police 1st. Then call Child protective services. Both will launch investigations, but they look at different things.
The police will investigate the crime of the drugs, etc.
CPS will investigate the endangerment of the kids.
CPS and the police won't tell the subject who called. But the real crime is to know about it and do nothing. You want to, otherwise you wouldn't ask.
Do it. At least then you did the right thing and can sleep easier at night.

This isn't as simple as some are making it. Yes you should report this, but you need to do it in a way that they do not know who it was that told.
I think the highschool guidance counselor is a good idea. You could call them from home and ask them to pull you out of class because you have something you need to say. Then just tell the kids that it was about your grades or something. Good luck and thank you for doing the right thing

You can either call 911, or get your local sheriff's office number and report it there, and certainly tell them of the MySpace page, maybe email them a link to it.

This is a very responsible thing of you to do. This mother is destroying more lives than just of her daughter's, and it needs to be stopped.

Good luck and hang in there!

Report her to your local DSS (Dept of social services) or CPS (Child protective services) From there they will do a investigation and it can remain anonymous. If you're uncomfortable contacting the authorities go to a guidance counselor at school and give them this information they will do it for you, they're mandated reporters and should follow up on this type of lead.
