student. She plays the violin, and it is good at it, she plays basketball and her position is center, and she is also good at it. Is it wrong of me that I do not want to get her anything for Christmas? I feel that she has gifts all through the year, and I just want to celebrate Christmas for its meaning and not just because you can get more gifts then too. For my friends I made them gifts, like poems and other things that I made by hand. I did buy a couple of toys for my friends kids, but my daughter did not see that. I feel guilty, but in my heart I feel that I am right. What do you think? p.s. Her room is a Toy's r Us store.

She has things that she does around the house and never complains about it.

Why not teach her the spirit of giving by having her go through her toys and donate the ones she doesn't play with any more to charity? Also help her shop for a toy for Toy's for Tots or the Salvation Army's Angel Tree.

Buy her a few gifts and this is coming from someone who's had this happen to her.
I am an excellent student and my parents did the same thing to me.

It was extremely hard to tell my friends, "Oh, I got nothing for christmas... blahh..."
or waking up that christmas day and looking forward to wonderful traditions but seeing no gifts under the tree.
it will hurt her more if she's younger (you said her room's Toy's R Us) so I'm guessing she isn't that old.

Get her a few but make them meaningful. Make gingerbread houses or just do something to show her what christmas is all about.

it's not wrong but she may not understand it at her age. maybe you should get her a couple of small things that are meaningful instead of toys or clothes. i obviously wouldn't make the decision to not get her anything without explaining it to her before christmas day or you're asking for disaster on christmas morning. she may go for the idea better than you would expect. maybe suggest that you just want to spend that time together as family and want to do special things together on christmas like bake together and watch christmas movies and just enjoy everyone as a family.

This is an easy one to figure out if you have any brains. Put yourself in her place. Imagine being a kid and you get nothing for Christmas. How would you feel?
