My father had heart surgery and subsequently had to start dialysis. We think he may no longer need it, but we are not sure what the signs or symptoms would be if he doesn't. The dialysis center has not even done blood work.

jennifer it is cleaning his body, the typical harms or let me rephrase, common problems are blood pressure drop, electrolyte disturbances, risks of infection and bleeding. talk to the nephrologist whose name is being used to run on the dialysis, i.e. someone has to be the ordering physician, talk to him/her. In terms of signs and syptoms of uremia (kidney failure) the fluid overload and electrolyte disturbances cause respective symptoms, you will not be able to identify them, good luck with you dad's health

Usually when a person is on dialysis, they feel better and seem like they aren't even that sick any more. It depends on how long your father has been on dialysis. Clinics usually do a blood test for anemia once a week, so they can manage medication for the anemia most of dialysis patients have. Once a month, a full set of lab work is done which measures the effectiveness of the dialysis and the residual kidney function of the patient. If your father is passing enough urine, they will have him give them a 24 hour specimen. Please remember that the kidneys have to do 2 things, they have to remove the fluid from our body effectively and they need to filter the waste products from our body too. If they aren't doing both jobs effectively enough, your father still needs dialysis. Good luck and Good health.

you will die devoid of dialysis. i do no longer understand if all and sundry can inform you while or how quickly, besides the fact that it is going to take place. i'm 22 - only had a transplant some months in the past, yet i grow to be on dialysis formerly that. this isn't any longer exciting - yet might you fairly the alternative?
