Why must they constantly bash Christianity rather than learn more about it? They make a straw man argument and knock it down. Why must they do this?

Okay, sorry if I offended anyone. I agree that atheists and Christians alike should learn to get along and be more loving, but I have noticed that many atheists (not just on this website) say very mean things about Christians. It can go the other way around, though.

As a Atheist, I hear this claim a lot. I have meet many Atheists and have been involved in organized Atheists groups. In general, Atheists are some of the most reserved people around. This is, I suppose, a necessary trait due to the fact that we are a despised minority in America. The claims that we are angry, that we hate God or we just want to go on a sin fest are the product of religious bigotry. I know you don't want to believe that your religion could lead you to bigotry but it shows when you make blanket statements disguised as questions.
Today, even the most humble of criticisms of religion are met with open hostility. Many folks believe that religion should be beyond question especially questions raised in doubt. That religion is a deeply emotional thing for the follower any doubt is perceived as an attack.
Speaking only for myself I hold no hostility toward religion. I have many books on the subject. Religion is fascinating but, I don't believe a word of it. Some of religions followers, on the other hand, deserve all of the hostility that can be heaped upon them.
I suggest that the next time you have occasion to chat with an Atheist try to resist going into defensive mode and just listen for a minute. You may be surprised to find that Atheists have the same sense of right and wrong as you and we are not really all that angry after all.

I see just as much bashing on this site by the Christians!!!
Atheists believe the old books you Christians and the rituals you partake in are all bull siht, no offense but why would anyone want to learn about something that is not true for any other reason than to try and understand why you believe it....I have done that and can't answer that question.
The Bible is so full of fantasy that it is impossible that it is true, same with the Koran and the new testament and the book of Mormon...
There is a some valuable human wisdom contained in some of the writings but the "literal belief" of the fundamental religious people defies the average atheist..."how can they believe that" is the predominant thought I personally have in regards to your religious books.
If you are speaking of things like common human characteristics like honesty, love, respect, the golden rule, etc. these are not religious in nature...they are human nature.
Any, all powerful being, who remains unseen is in fact un-seeable and therefore not what your religions teach.
I personally like the idea of life after death and hope your right on that one...but we will just have to wait and see.

Why must you generalize all that don't agree with you? That's the problem with MOST (notice I said most) Christians, if someone questions you, you think of it as anger. If I say I don't agree with you, then suddenly, I am Satan himself. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they are angry. There IS anger on BOTH sides, but you'll see none coming from this direction, unless you are being completely ignorant and judge mental (and that goes for Christians and Atheists alike).

Because both sides don't realize that Christianity is true but not the full picture. It's like the Blind Man and The Elephant.

You gotta start following the bread crumbs and figure out the rest of the picture.

There are many secret societies that are being exposed and saying one exist and the other doesn't only shows how bigot you are.

There is a full game plan going on before our eyes and we are in the *Final Mission* for Global Control. The only 1 Trillion Dollar question is who will pull the final strings when the internet gets the kill switch activated?

roflmao. What makes you think that Atheists know nothing about Christianity? Most Atheists are much more informed on religions in the world than Christians can even remotely comprehend. And most Atheists have read the bible many times.

I think it's Christianity that tries to make straw man arguments. For some reason they think "the bible says so" is an actual factual answer with proof.

Try again.

One thing I have noticed is that Atheist, and other religious groups know more about the history of Christianity and the Abrahamic religions. I'll admit, many of them do not compose arguments well, but it is nonetheless better than most Christian arguments.

In all honesty, debating the existance of the Christian deity, or The Nous, Or Amon, or Deus, or whicheever you would like to call it, is stupid. Those things would be beyond this universe, in all levels, except for the possibility of the acknowledgement of it's existance elsewhere. One cannot prove the existance of God.

At this point, many Christians develop into "I've felt it!" but also fall upon the one God thing. I've felt God's too, just not yours, which may be "Demons," to you, but I ask, how do you know what you feel is not "demonic?"

Its only since I've joined "answers" that I hear so much bad things about atheists. I am a believer in God. All the atheists I know are very tolerant and respectful of my faith. I'll even say that they are more open minded that most religious people I see around me. Maybe American atheists are different!

WEll....they probably don't bash Christianity any worse than Christianity bashes other religions. Tit for Tat.

You ought to hear the bible thumpers bashing those in the Pagan religions.

Seriously, anything that differs from what you believe and know nothing about...you will look down on...human nature. Ignorance is the biggest culprit. BUT....it doesn't have to be that way. Respect for other people and their beliefs should be the way it is....but it has a while to get to that point.

Why are so many Christians so angry?
Why must they constantly bash Atheism rather than learn more about it?Why do Christians label Atheists liberal communists? To this day, hardcore neo-conservatives are mixing up Atheism with communism.
